District 11 Notes – Week 9

RUNNINGBACKS: 

Colm McGroaty of Mahanoy Area (1,042 yards) and Steven Lilly of Palisades (1,029 yards) both went over 1,000 yards rushing on the season last week.  McGroaty scored 4 td’s in their win over Nativity.  Alex Achenbach of Williams Valley still leads the District with 1,482 yards rushing.  He is followed by Aiden Myers of Schuylkill Haven who has 1,298 yards and Cade Sawyer of Southern Lehigh who has 1,205 yards.  There were no 200-yard rushers last week but Matt Machalik of Palmerton rushed for 199 yards and 3 scores while throwing for 126 yards and a td.  Andre Reames of Stroudsburg rushed for 188 yards and 3 td’s in their win over ES South to go over 2,000 yards rushing for his career (2,088).  Clarence Watkins of Allen rushed for 145 yards and 4 td’s in their win over ES North.  Junior Caden Henritzy of Northampton scored his 30th career td last week in their win over Dieruff.  Achenbach leads the District for td’s scored with 22.  He is followed by Jalen Fletcher of Freedom who has 20 td’s after scoring 3 last week vs Bethlehem Catholic.  Cade Christopher of Northwestern has the third highest total with 19 td’s.

QUARTERBACKS:

Danny Darno of Notre Dame threw for 263 yards and 5 td’s in their win over Pine Grove.  Darno went over 2,000 yards passing on the season and now has 2,045 yards and 24 td passes.  He trails Machalik who has 2,135 yards and 27 td passes.  Machalik also went over 4,000 yards passing in his career (4,107).  Jake Fotta of Emmaus threw for 263 yards and 2 td’s while also rushing for 3 td’s in their win over Easton.  Fotta has thrown for 1,668 yards and 18 td’s this season.  Luke Spang of Parkland went over 1,000 yards passing for the season when he threw for 273 yards and 2 td’s (also rushed for 2 td’s) in their win over Liberty.  Spang went over 1,000 yards passing for the season and 2,000 yards passing for his career.  The junior has 1,093 yards this year and 2,129 yards for his career.  Freshman Dante Carr of Minersville threw for 333 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Schuylkill Haven.  Sonny Sasso of Nazareth had his 4th 200-yard game this season when he threw for 218 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Whitehall.  Sasso has thrown for 1,860 yards and 20 td’s this year.  Ian McHugh of PM West had his first 200-yard game this season when he threw for 210 yards and 2 td’s in their loss to Pleasant Valley.  Tommy Mason of Liberty (1,110 yards), Kole Miller of Tri-Valley (1,035 yards), and Ben Dempster of Shenandoah Valley (1,008 yards), all went over 1,000 yards for the season.   Brad Rissmiller of Pen Argyl went over 2,000 yards passing for his career.  The junior now has 2,158 yards.

RECEIVERS:

Dylan Darville of Emmaus caught 9 passes for a school record 236 yards and 2 td’s vs Easton.  Matt Salvaterra held the old record when he had 224 yards (8 catches) vs Dieruff in 1997.  Brady Evans of Williams Valley leads the District with 11 td reception this season.  Nolan Lobb of Nazareth and Darville are 1 behind with 10.  Joey Flail broke the school career reception yardage record last week.  Flail, just a junior, has 113 receptions for 1,700 yards and 26 td’s in his career.  Ron Hartz held the record when he racked up 1,669 yards receiving on 98 catches in 2 seasons from 1981 and 1982.  Damian Tyminski of Pen Argyl also a junior, broke another school record after catching 5 passes for 79 yards in their win over Panther Valley.  Tyminski now has 845 yards receiving this year breaking his own record of 780 yards that he set last year.  Tyminski’s career stats have him with 97 catches for 1,625 yards and 13 td’s.  For the season, he currently leads the District for receptions (54) and yardage (845).  Josh Ludlow is second in the District with 50 receptions and Darville is one yard behind Tyminski with 844 yards.  There are 3 seniors that have very similar career totals that reached 75 catches.  Owen Johnson of Freedom has 75 catches for 1,339 yards and 12 td’s.  Brock Polinsky of Minersville has 78 catches for 1,328 yards and 12 td’s and Dan Lucykanish of Palmerton has 78 catches for 1,306 yards and 13 td’s. Jareel Calhoun of Central Catholic was on the verge of becoming the first player ever in the District to catch 50 passes without catching a td pass when he erupted for 3 td catches last week vs Pocono Mountain East.  The sophomore has 47 receptions for 394 yards and 3 td’s this season.

STAT OF THE WEEK:

Back to Dylan Darville of Emmaus.  Darville has 45 catches for 844 yards and 10 td’s this season.  He is the 8th Hornet to have 40 or more catches in a season.  The school record is 48 receptions which Dave Treat set in 1989.  Deonte Castro caught 47 passes in 2018.  Matt Salvaterra caught 46 in 1998 and 45 in 1997.  Kevin White of the New Orleans Saints caught 46 in 2009.  Tyler Hersch caught 45 in 2004 and Frank Wiseley caught 44 in 2008.  Darville’s 844 yards places him in 5th place at Emmaus.  Record holder Salvaterra had 890 yards in 1998 and 889 yards in 1997.  Treat is next in line with the 864 yards he had in the 89 season and Keith Cooke who had 851 yards on only 30 catches in 1981. Cooke who was a tight end, averaged 28.4 yards per catch that season and caught 10 td passes.  Cooke was the first Hornet to catch 10 td’s in a season and is one of 5 players who hold the school record.  Treat, White, Castro and now Darville also caught 10 td receptions in a season.
