RUNNINGBACKS:

Sophomore qb Matt Machalik of Palmerton scored 5 td’s in their win over Pine Grove to take over the District lead with 19 total td’s.  Deante’ Crawford of Freedom scored 3 times vs Whitehall and moved into 2nd spot with his 16 td’s this season.  Justin Holmes of Northwestern, Kael Godshalk of Bangor and Jaded Bowens of PM West follow Crawford with 15, 14 and 13 td’s scored respectively.  Bowens had his 2nd 200 yard rushing game this season when he rushed for 208 yards and 5 td’s in the first half vs Allen.  In the same game Allen’s Clarence Watkins rushed for 273 yards and 3 td’s.  He also scored three 2-point conversions as he scored all 24 points for Allen.  Watkins was 9 yards short of the school record.  Gavani Hall rushed for a school record 282 yards vs Pleasant Valley in 2019.  Josh Chowansky of North Schuylkill leads the District in rushing with 1,241 yards.  Chowansky needs 20 yards rushing to break Jaden Leiby’s career school record 2,993 yards that he rushed for from 2016-19.  Sophomore Alex Achenbach of Williams Valley is also over 1,000 yards and has 1,103 yards.   Eric Striba of Bangor rushed for 226 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Lehighton.

QUARTERBACKS:

John Adams of Minersville threw for 384 yards and 5 td’s in their win over Catasauqua.  The 5 td’s ties the school record that Scott Schwalm set in 2019.  Schwalm threw 5 td’s against both Shenandoah Valley and Schuylkill Valley.  Adams has thrown for 1,676 yards and 18 td passes on the season.  Collin Quintano of Notre Dame leads the District with his 1,773 yards passing and 21 td passes.  Jake Hall of North Schuylkill is 3rd with 1,496 yards and is tied with Adams for 2nd with 18 td passes.  Owen Kosar of Shenandoah Valley, Tamlim Ferguson of Central Catholic and Tommy Macon of Liberty all went over 1,000 passing for the season.  Kosar had a big game throwing for 268 yards vs Panther Valley.  Bobby McClosky of ES South threw for 250 yards and 3 td’s in their loss to Parkland and Cole Dorshimer had a career high 228 yards passing vs Salisbury.

RECEIVERS:

Joey Vevasis of Shenandoah Valley set 2 school records vs Panther Valley last week.  Vevasis caught 15 passes for 212 yards, breaking the records held by Jason Najunas and Nick Merva.  Najunas caught 13 passes against Minersville in 2016 and Merva caught 10 passes for a school record 202 yards vs Williams Valley in 2012.  Vevasis leads the District with 44 receptions.  Vevasis also went over 1,000 yards for his career (1,099 yards).  Zack Gillen of Wilson caught 9 passes for 102 yards against Pottsville to set a school record for career receptions.  Gillen now has 130 career catches breaking the old record of 129 that Adam Thomas caught from 2004-06.  Trevor Amorim of Northern Lehigh has 74 career receptions going for 1,408 yards and 15 td grabs.  He needs 36 yards to break the 53 year old career record of 1,443 yards set by Duke Lilly from 1966-68.  Jared Graeff of Minersville already owns the career reception record (112) and needs 155 yards to break Gabe Davis’s career reception yardage record (1,613 yards).  Graeff is currently tied with Davis for career td receptions with 16 each.  Teammate Jason Cullen caught 5 passes for 189 yards and 3 td’s vs Catasauqua last week.  North Schuylkill’s sophomore Joey Flail is 2nd in the District with 40 receptions and leads the District with his 718 receiving yards and 9 td grabs.  Flail had his 3rd game with 140 or more yards receiving last week vs Notre Dame.  Another sophomore Damian Tyminski of Pen Argyl caught 8 passes for 175 yards and 2 td’s in their 2 point loss to Salisbury.  Tyler Csencsits of Saucon Valley needs 21 yards receiving to break Nate Harka’s record.  Harka had 1,302 career receiving yards from 2013-15.  Jose Almonte of ES South caught 2 long td’s from Bobby McClosky and finished with 147 receiving yards vs Parkland.
