DISTRICT 11 NOTES (week 6):

RUNNINGBACKS:

District leader Alex Achenbach of Williams Valley rushed for 215 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Nativity.  Achenbach has 943 yards rushing and 13 td’s on the season.  The junior also went over 3,000 yards for his career and currently has 3,160 yards and has scored 38 td’s. Cade Sawyer of Southern Lehigh has the second highest total in the District with 762 yards rushing.  Matt Machalik of Palmerton now has the career school td record with 48 td’s. Mike Stasko scored 46 td’s from 2013-16.  Kameron Wetzel of Tri-Valley returned to the lineup and rushed for 250 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Shenandoah Valley.  Teammate Jake Scheib went over the 2,000-yard mark for his career with 2,003 yards and he also scored his 30th career td last week.  Eric Striba of Bangor also went over 2,000 yards rushing (2,109 yards) for his career to go along with his 32 career td’s.  A total of 4 players were added to the list this week as they all went over 1,000 yards rushing in their careers.  They are, Fela Olaniyan of Pleasant Valley, Tylik Jarvis of Emmaus, Payton Fasnacht of Blue Mountain, and Lane Lehman of Pine Grove. Achenbach leads the District with his 16 td’s scored and is followed by Cade Christopher of Northwestern who has scored 13 td’s.  Josh Ludlow of Notre Dame, Jalen Fletcher of Freedom, Steven Lilly of Palisades and Machalik have all scored 12 td’s this season.

QUARTERBACKS:

Matt Machalik of Palmerton threw for a school record 347 yards and 6 td passes and added 117 yards on the ground and 2 scores in their win over Pine Grove.  Machalik leads the District with 1,572 yards and 21 td passes this season.  His 21 td passes are also a school record as Garrett Perschy held the old record when he threw 19 td passes in 2016.  Danny Darno of Notre Dame threw for 261 yards and 4 td’s in their win over North Schuylkill.  Darno is third in the District this season with 1,204 yards passing.  Sammy Sasso of Nazareth holds down the second spot with his 1,241 yards passing and follows Machalik for td passes with 15.  Jake Fotta of Emmaus threw for 288 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Stroudsburg.  Fotta went over 2,000 yards for his career and now has thrown for 2,202 yards and 23 td passes.  Tommy Mason of Liberty had his first 200-yard game this year when he threw for 213 yards and 2 td’s in their win over ES South and went over 2,000 yards for his career (2,049).  Brett Balliet of Jim Thorpe is the third qb to go over 2,000 yards for his career last week (2,079 yards).  Ben Kreitzer of Nativity threw for 206 yards and 2 td’s vs Williams Valley last week and now has 1,000 yards even on the season.  Mason Kroh of Pine Grove, Luke Thomas of Bethlehem Catholic, and Michael Pascoe of Panther Valley all went over 1,000 passing in their careers.

RECEIVERS:

Brady Evans of Williams Valley and AJ Lozano of Notre Dame each caught 3 td passes last week.  Evans caught 4 passes for 168 yards and Lozano caught 6 passes for 133 yards.  Noah Dolbin of Nativity caught 6 passes for 167 yards and 2 td’s vs Williams Valley last week.  The sophomore went over 1,000 yards for his career as his current totals have him with 50 catches for 1,120 yards and 9 td’s.  Dan Lucykanish of Palmerton and Eric Wert of Bethlehem Catholic also went over 1,000 yards receiving in their careers.  Lucykanish has caught 62 passes for 1,082 yards and 11 td’s while Wert has caught 85 passes for 1,042 yards and 8 td’s.  Wert is closing in on the Golden Hawks career reception record of 97.  Let’s see if anybody knows who holds that record.  Joey Flail of North Schuylkill has 96 career receptions and needs 4 more to break the school record and become the first Spartan with 100 career receptions.  Damian Tyminski of Pen Argyl leads the District in receptions with 39 but drops to third in yardage with his 591 yards.  Dolbin leads with 674 yads and Evans follows with 595 yards.  Ian Rarick of Lehighton and Jareel Calhoun of Central Catholic follow Tyminski in catches as each has caught 33 passes this season.

STAT OF THE WEEK:

Machalik is the second QB to throw 6 td’s in a game this season.  The first time that happened was in 1968.  Jim Kugler of Saucon Valley (Hellertown) threw for 372 yards and 7 td’s in a 51-7 win over Pen Argyl and Gary Van Norman of Northern Lehigh (Slatington) threw for 262 yards and 6 td’s in a 74-0 win over Jim Thorpe.
