Delco Christian: A Knight to Remember

To say that most people came into tonight’s DC v Calvary game expecting the end result to happen would be a lie. However, just like last week against the Drakes, DC made the argument that they were the new powerhouse in the BAL. In the battle of the best Calvary entering number 1 in division and DC entering number 2, this was on the slate to be a shootout. Instead of a shootout, we got a shutout. Led once again by backs Zac Moore and Sam Tascone the Knights took it to Calvary early.

The goal of the night for the Knights was to chew the clock, and they did that and more. Striking first after a Jenkintown OT-esque pitch play Zac Moore scored with 32 seconds left in the half. Calvary started out the half strong led by senior QB Doug Smith who had some impressive runs and very clean passes. Those passes would go unaccounted for though as on multiple occasions Calvary let the ball, and perhaps the game slip away. Calvary probably should have abandoned ship on the run game earlier than they did seeing as Tiassa Toukou and Tyler Winkis weren’t letting Calvary get any yards on the ground.

Many people will tell you that the defense for DC or Zac Moore won the game for the Knights but I will throw another name into the hate for Delco. Sam Tascone will get my nod for MVP for the Knights. With several big yards( 21,36 and 21 yds. respectively) for the Knights, Tascone was a force in the backfield. If I were to define Calvary’s offense as looking to shoot first ask questions later, Sam Tascone was Kevlar. Involved on what seemed to be every Cougar pass play, Tascone didn’t let anyone get behind him. Which in my mind really put the game away for DC. Coach Jim Favino gave me a great quote after the game on his defeat of BAL rival Calvary, “This was like Appalacian State beating Michigan.” Favino stated with a smile. As unexpected as it may have been, the dream is a reality, and after a 14-0 shutout for DC, this truly is a (K)night to remember.

Other Stats worth noting:
-Calvary amassed a whopping 9 penalties for a 50 yard total in the second half
-DC finished the game with on my count 13 first downs

Next week DC will look to go 3-0 in BAL play as they square off against Bristol Saturday at 7.
