
Cole Ordway threw for a touchdown and ran another to lead the East All-Stars to a 14-10 victory over the West in the Big School All-Star Game Saturday afternoon at Chapman Field..
The West struck first midway through the opening quarter when kicker Chayse Snyder drilled a 35-yard field goal with 7:48 remaining to give the West an early 3-0 lead.
After a defensive battle through much of the first half, the East offense found momentum late in the second quarter. Quarterback Cole Ordway connected with Kurtis Crossman on a 19-yard touchdown pass with 2:43 left before halftime. Nate Shaffer’s extra point gave the East a 7-3 advantage heading into halftime.
Ordway took over again in the third quarter, breaking loose for the game’s biggest play, a dazzling 68-yard touchdown run with 3:23 remaining in the third quarter. Shaffer added the PAT to push the East lead to 14-3.
The West answered quickly to stay within striking distance. Quarterback Trey Wingard found Aiden Nasiadka for a 37-yard touchdown strike with 55 seconds left in the third quarter. Snyder converted the extra point, trimming the deficit to 14-10.
Despite the late momentum, the West could not complete the comeback as the East defense held firm in the fourth quarter.
Ordway led the East offense both through the air and on the ground. He completed 4-of-9 passes for 104 yards and one touchdown while rushing for a game-high 82 yards and a score on just three carries. He was named East MVP.
Sean Steckert added 40 rushing yards for the East.
In the passing game, Crossman hauled in the lone touchdown reception for the East, while Talon Dogmanits made the biggest splash with a 54-yard catch. Daryus Dixon added two receptions for 19 yards.
The West All-Stars passed for 202 yards, led by Cole DeLattre, who threw for 121 yards, and Wingard, who added 81 yards and a touchdown pass. Nasiadka paced West receivers with five catches for 62 yards and the score, while Gabe Hein added four receptions for 84 yards.
On Special teams Snyder accounted for four West points with a field goal and extra point, while Shaffer was perfect on two PAT attempts for the East.
