District 11 Notes (Week 10)

RUNNINGBACKS: 

Warren Stewart of Tamaqua ran for 295 yards and 4  td’s in their win over Panther Valley last week.  Blaze Curry of Southern Lehigh rushed for 209 yards and a td in their win over Salisbury.  Jaden Bowens of PM West had his 3rd 200 yard rushing game this year when he rushed for 206 yards and 2 scores vs PM East.  Bowens is the 2nd Panther to score 30 career td’s.  Franklyn Quiteh holds the school record when he scored 34 career td’s from 2007-08.  Kael Godshalk of Bangor rushed for 195 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Pen Argyl.  Godshalk went over 1,000 yards rushing on the season (1,062) and joins teammate Eric Striba (1,200 yards) as the first teammates at Bangor to rush for 1,000 yards in the same season.  Godshalk has scored 19 td’s this season which places him in 3rd place at Bangor.   The school record is 22 td’s that Phil Vass scored in 2012.  Josh Wing scored 20 td’s in 2011 and is currently in 2nd place.  Also tied with Godshalk for 3rd place with 19 td’s are Mike Smith (1997) and Scott LaValva (2008 & 2009).  Clarence Watkins of Allen finished the season rushing for 953 yards.  The junior came up short of becoming just the 4th Canary to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.  Jeff Ortt owns the school record with 1,131 yards that he set in 1986.  Todd Stahlnecker rushed for 1,119 yards in 1993 and Bruce Montager rushed for 1,041 yards in 1972.  Josh Chowansky of North Schuylkill still leads all rushers with his 1,424 yards this season.  Justin Holmes of Northwestern went over 1,000 yards rushing last week.  He’ll enter the playoffs with 1,099 yards rushing with 20 td’s scored and 1,141 yards passing and 14 td passes.  Tyler Rohn of Nazareth and Damian Garcia of Saucon Valley both went over 2,000 yards rushing in their careers.  Dahlir Adams of Parkland went over 1,000 yards rushing for the season last week vs Emmaus and now has 1,070 yards

QUARTERBACKS:

Cayden Stem of Wilson threw for 330 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Notre Dame.  Stem’s season totals have him with 1,933 yards passing and 24 td passes.  Stem went over 5,000 yards passing for his career and has thrown 63 td passes.  Jake Hall of North Schuylkill threw a td pass last week to up his career total to 54 td passes.  That ties him with Bobby Grigas for the school record.  John Adams of Minersville leads the District with 2,389 yards passing.  Adams broke Scott Schwalm’s school record of 2,249 yards that he set in 2019.  Dylan Smoyer of Northern Lehigh threw 2 td passes last week in their win over Palmerton and now holds the school record with 32 career td passes.  Don Rubright held the old record when he threw 30 career td passes from 1969-70.  Smoyer needs 6 yards to break the school career passing yardage record.  Rubright has the record with 2,561 yards.  Jaden Newton of Palisades went over 1,000 yards passing for the season last week and has 1,003 yards.  Brett Balliet of Jim Thorpe also went over 1,000 yards and is currently at 1,002 yards.  Jovan Rodriquez of Dieruff threw for 291 yards and 3 td passes while also rushing for 3 td’s in their win over Allen.  Rodriguez threw for 1,521 yards this season which ties him with Rocky Butler for 5th place all-time at Dieruff.  Butler threw for his yardage in 1996 to go along with 20 td passes.  Jayce Carbello-Snowell of Pottsville went over 2,000 yards passing for his career last week and now has 2,008 yards.

RECEIVERS:

Zack Gillen of Wilson caught 8 passes for 146 yards and a td last week to up his season totals to 52 catches for 740 yards and 7 td’s.  Gillen now has 151 career receptions putting him in 8th place all-time in the District, one catch better than Jason Grow of Williams Valley who caught 150 passes from 1987-90.  Gillen’s career reception yardage is now up to 2,270 yards.  He’s currently in 12th place all-time in the District.  Joey Vevasis of Shenandoah Valley leads the District with 54 receptions.  Tyler Csencsits of Saucon Valley tied Taylor Kreitz’s single season school record as both have 45 catches.  Kreitz caught his 45 catches in 2008 for a school record 985 yards.   Pen Argyl sophomore Damian Tyminski finished the season with 2 school records.  He caught 43 passes for 780 yards. Tyminski’s 8 td catches this season were 1 behind record holder Austin Williams who had 9 in 2008.  Kyle McGrath of Palisades caught 51 passes for 557 yards and 2 td’s this season which put him over 1,000 yards for his career (1,048).  His 51 catches ties him with Andy Kukura for 2nd place at Palisades.  Kukura caught 51 passes in 1975 for 813 yards.  Also in 1975, teammate All-State tight end Jim Kacergis caught 43 passes for 1,054 yards and 14 td’s for coach Mike “air” Boushell.  Ron Gelegonya holds the single season reception record at Palisades with the 54 he caught in 1990.
