Officials Appreciation Week

Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) will be celebrating and recognizing PIAA registered officials with a series of Appreciation Weeks throughout the school year. The first appreciation week for Fall Officials will be next month, October 3-9, 2021. At the most recent PIAA Board of Directors meeting, this initiative was announced and approved by the Board of Directors.

PIAA Board of Directors President and PIAA District 2 Chairman Frank Majikes mentioned “The dedicated efforts of all PIAA registered officials need to be recognized and by celebrating their efforts all member schools can show their appreciation for officials.” Majikes, himself has been a registered PIAA official for over 50 years, so these weeks are especially meaningful to him.

There are nearly 14,000 PIAA registered officials in the Commonwealth and next month’s celebration will target those that currently work fall sports. Both winter and spring sports officials will be recognized during the months of January and April 2022.

The logo below has been designed as a branding symbol for the first of these three weeks and will be used on the upcoming social media campaign for this event.

We are requesting the assistance of administrators at PIAA member schools to highlight the efforts of officials working on their campuses during these weeks. Member schools have been provided a listing of potential activities they can use to illustrate their appreciation to sports officials.

Please assist us in recognizing all PIAA registered sports officials during these weeks by highlighting actions that would thank officials for their dedication and involvement in interscholastic athletics. We thank you in advance for your participation in this worthy endeavor.
