O’Hara Turns it up in Second Half Downs Chester

For the first twenty four minutes of their game against Catholic League power Cardinal O’Hara the Chester Clippers hung in there with the tough task the were facing on Saturday at Chester Upland Athletic Complex.

Just how tough of a test did the Clippers in face the Lions? Entering Saturday’s game the Lions shut out three of their four opponents and out scored the same opponents by a combine score of

151-24. The Lions themselves also had to face a test in stopping Anthony Davis.

For the First twenty-four minutes both defenses looked up to the task as the Lions took a 7-0 lead into the locker rooms at half. Senior Adam Dempsey gave the Lions the lead on the games when he caped seven play 68 yard drive with his 14 yard touchdown plunge.

In the second half the Lions came out firing posting 14 points in the third quarter that extended lead to 21-0. The first Lions touchdown of the second half came on their opening drive when they drove 16 yards on four plays before Brandon McLaughlin powered his way in from two yards out to extend the Lions lead to 14-0.

Playing without Maurice Nelson the Clippers had a time getting any offense against the Lions defense which held Davis to just 20 yards on six carries in addition to holding Darrell Nicholson to 15 yards on eight carries. The Lions defense also intercepted the Clippers three times with two of them going to Chester resident Shawn Driggins. It was Driggins second interception of the day that he returned 15 yards for the touchdown to give the Lions the 21-0 lead. Driggins worked out with Clippers assistant Braheem Montgomery during the off season said “It’s(playing against Chester) is fun, I’ve heard talk all year from working out with the guys so it felt good coming out with W against these guys” Driggins said.

The Lions added to lead in the fourth quarter with two scores. The first score came from Dempsey from two yards. Aston AA alumnus Ryan Laughlin would connect with McLaughlin for the final score of the day that covered 12 yards.

The Clippers face another tough task this Saturday when they open Del Val league play by welcoming one of the favorites to win the league in Glen Mills Battlin’ Bulls. Due to the SAT testing the kick off of the game has been pushed back to 2 pm at the A field.
