Coaches Q&A with Andrew Erby:

Q. What are his strengths at running back?

A. He’s a very explosive and physical running back. He has good hips and great speed. He’s a threat to go the distance every snap.

He can either run you over or run around you and it doesn’t matter if we run him inside or outside, he can make plays. He has good vision and I think playing basketball helps him on the football field.

We’re going to move him around and try to get that one-on-one matchup with a linebacker. We feel if we have that matchup, good things could happen.

Q. This year he’s going to play more on defense. What do you expect and what are his strengths?

A. He’s a hit and run guy. What I mean is, he’s able to tackle in space and close down quickly. He’s very physical at the point of tackle and has great speed and vision.

He has a good understanding on how to cover man-to-man defense and having a basketball background helps him on defense.

He has worked hard in the offseason on defense and 7-on-7 has helped.

Q. He’s doing special teams this year. What do you expect?

A. In my eyes he’s a guy you have to prepare for. At any given moment he has the athletic ability where he can make a play that can change a ball game.

Q. What has he done in the offseason to prepare for his senior season?

A. He has really worked hard in the weight room. He’s working on getting stronger and faster. This year he’s going to be a more explosive player.

He has gone to a lot of camps and competed against other talent.
