Catasauqua Looks to Turn Steady Progress Into Consistent Success in 2026
Catasauqua enters the 2026 season believing the foundation established over the last two years is ready to produce more consistent results.
Head coach Joe Henrich begins his third season leading the Rough Riders and his 12th overall as a head coach. Henrich owns a 74-57 career record and has guided teams to four district championships.
After earning a District 11 Class 2A playoff berth in 2025, Catasauqua now wants to take the next step from a developing program into a regular postseason contender.
The Rough Riders finished 4-8 last season, recording victories over Mahanoy Area, Wilson Area, Salisbury and Palmerton. Their season ended with a district quarterfinal loss to Schuylkill Haven before the annual Thanksgiving Day game against Northampton.
With two full years in Henrich’s system, an experienced coaching staff and a roster that has become bigger and stronger, Catasauqua enters the new season with increased confidence.
Reilly Returns to Lead the Offense
Quarterback Aiden Reilly returns to direct the Catasauqua offense.
His experience within the system should help the Rough Riders play faster and operate more efficiently. After two seasons learning the terminology, reads and expectations of the coaching staff, Reilly should enter 2026 with greater command of the offense.
He will be coached by Cooper King, while offensive coordinator responsibilities will be shared through a staff that includes experienced position coaches Herm Stein, Ron Armstead and Eddie Diaz.
Reilly also returns as the team’s punter, giving him an important role on special teams.
The biggest challenge for the offense will be replacing several versatile playmakers, including Cadeo Estonza, JoJo Lafond, Chris Wellington, Tray Dunn and Manny Bolmer.
That group contributed at running back, receiver and quarterback, leaving opportunities for younger players to emerge during preseason camp.
Limandri and Pacheco Lead the Receiving Corps
Catasauqua returns two experienced receivers in Tyler Limandri and Omar Pacheco.
Both players also contribute in the secondary, making them important two-way members of the roster.
Limandri’s experience and athleticism should make him one of Reilly’s primary targets, while Pacheco provides another proven option in the passing game.
The Rough Riders will need additional receivers and running backs to step forward around them. The varsity experience gained by younger players during the last two seasons should help create more competition and depth at the skill positions.
For Catasauqua to improve offensively, the Rough Riders must become more consistent from week to week and avoid the extended scoring droughts that hurt them against the top teams on last year’s schedule.
Returning Linemen Provide Stability
The offensive line returns Evan Delong, Shane Bortz and Jaxon Beaton.
Their experience gives the Rough Riders a foundation up front despite the graduation of Adam Kosciolek and Braeden Smith.
Delong and Bortz are also expected to play important roles along the defensive line, while Beaton will help provide continuity for an offensive front that must protect Reilly and establish the running game.
The coaching staff believes another offseason in the strength and conditioning program has made the roster larger, stronger and more physically prepared.
That development will be especially important in the Colonial-Schuylkill League, where the Rough Riders regularly face physical teams with strong defensive fronts.
Experienced Linebackers Anchor the Defense
Catasauqua returns several experienced defenders at linebacker.
Chase Kratochvil, Tuari Wright and Joziah Martinez are all back after gaining valuable varsity experience.
That trio will be asked to lead a defense that must replace Wellington and Dunn at linebacker.
Their familiarity with defensive coordinator Matt Kosciolek’s system should allow the Rough Riders to communicate more effectively and play with greater confidence.
The linebackers will be responsible for limiting the run, pursuing the football and helping the defense improve its consistency. Catasauqua allowed at least 37 points in six games last season, making better tackling and fewer explosive plays major priorities entering 2026.
Delong and Bortz Lead the Defensive Front
Delong and Bortz return along the defensive line and will be counted on to help replace Kosciolek and Smith.
Both players bring experience from contributing on offense and defense. Their ability to control blockers and create penetration will be important for a unit replacing several physical seniors.
Defensive line coach Brian Reilly will work with the group as younger players compete for expanded roles.
Developing dependable depth will be essential because several of Catasauqua’s top players are expected to contribute on both sides of the football.
Veteran Safeties Strengthen the Secondary
Limandri and Pacheco return at safety and should provide leadership in the defensive backfield.
Their experience will be especially valuable following the graduation of Lafond, Estonza and Bolmer.
The secondary must improve its communication and limit long gains, particularly against teams capable of attacking vertically through the passing game.
The Rough Riders believe two years of experience in the defensive system will allow players to react more instinctively instead of hesitating or overthinking their assignments.
Special Teams Feature Returning Punter
Reilly returns as Catasauqua’s punter, giving the Rough Riders continuity in one important special teams position.
The remaining kicking and return roles will need to be settled during the preseason.
Special teams could be an important area of improvement for a team looking to compete in more close games. Strong coverage, dependable snapping and better field position would help both the offense and defense.

Aiden Reilly, QB/P: Returning quarterback who enters his third season in the system and will also handle punting duties.
Tyler Limandri, WR/S: Experienced two-way player expected to lead the receiving corps and secondary.

My thoughts on Catasauqua
Catasauqua’s progress under Henrich has been gradual but noticeable.
The Rough Riders improved their regular-season performance in 2025 and earned a District 11 playoff berth. While the postseason loss showed how much work remains, it also gave a young roster experience that could prove valuable this fall.
The offense returns its quarterback, two experienced receivers and three offensive linemen. The defense brings back proven players at linebacker, safety and along the defensive front.
The biggest questions involve replacing a large group of versatile seniors and finding enough younger players to create reliable depth.
With two full seasons in the system, the Rough Riders should have a stronger understanding of their assignments and a better feel for the standards established by Henrich and his staff.
If Catasauqua can become more consistent defensively, establish its running game and develop new playmakers around Reilly, the Rough Riders have an opportunity to improve on last year’s four-win season and strengthen their position as a District 11 Class 2A playoff contender.
