  1. @Buddy-

Here is the Math. 44 AAAA teams in D1. 16 make Playoffs. 36% of teams make Playoffs. if you have 3 losses, almost a given that you don’t make the playoffs unless you have some big wins (2 teams were 7-3 last year). Using your suggestion, Coatesville would NOT have been in the Playoffs last year. They were not in the top 8 in points.

To compare.. 6 teams (2 play in games) make the Playoffs in Philly Pub out of 11 teams. Over 50% make Playoffs. A few teams had losing records and were in the play in games.

PCL. 4 of 5 AAAA have the Catholic League Playoff to start their Playoff run into Districts. All have good records.

Also, the run by North Penn a few years ago would not have happened with only 8 teams making D1 playoffs. Same scenario, they didn’t have enough points to be in the top 8.

I don’t think going to 8 will happen. Just my opinion!

  2. @ Pub and others,

Did Armageddon occur and I missed it?? Never thought I’d see the day when North Penn wasn’t even in the discussion for State honors let alone Districts!!…. from what I gather it’s true and won’t change in the immediate future. Thought this would never happen unless the school was split, i.e. CB.
I suppose this is just another sign that the apocalypse is upon us..

  3. Joe,

All I was doing was pointing out where the guidelines. Complaining about what other districts do is not D12, Gordon or LaSalle’s style. I do not think that they were forced to play that day. But they would not have made them change their date. Maybe there was a conflict with the venue on Saturday.

We talk about the lack of D1 venues to play playoff games every fall. They don’t need to worry about it this year as the Semi will be in Allentown or at NE. Maybe they can start planning for 2014.

  4. @PCL fan

As it stands now, D12, if they get that far, and they usually do, has an advantage of an extra week to prepare for the state semi.

There currently is a bye week built into the system . They have to wait for D1 to crown a champ.

Supposedly, there is talk to correct that. Not sure how. One proposal, which I favor, is to knock D1 playoff entries from 16 teams to 8.That’s the way it used to be.

I know D1 is big, but 16 teams in the playoffs? Really?

  5. @ pub, Franklin???? Haha, sorry they could be ok but not better then these 3 in AAA It’s a long season in the pub an anything can happen, but from the talk I hear an the 7 on 7s I seen this will be my prediction for the D12 Pub. Always a ton of talent in the Pub.

    AAAA Washington, Southern
AAA Gratz, King or Mastery Charter
    AA IMHOTEP, Roxborough

  6. @steve-

Thank you my friend. I drove my pick-up with a lift kit to thre game. Had a bow//gun holder in the back.

    AA. Imhotep
    AAA Franklin
    AAAA G Washington

    I’m a D 1 guy. Not D12 afficianado. In D1:

    AAA. Pottsgrove/Strath Haven

AAAA. Coatesville, Neshaminy, Ridley or Spring-Ford

Like your satirical angle on things. Just saying……. Sorry if I was pissy. My bad!

  7. @PCL fan the dates are set in a bracket yes. But that does not mean anything. The team at the top if the bracket is also supposed to have a game in their district. I can give 2 examples of venue changes made by the PIAA. ACC vs Clearfield in 2010 was played in District 4, Wood vs Selinsgrove in 2009 was played in District 3. In both cases the games were to be played in the home district if the team on top in the bracket as per the district rep. In both cases the away district refused the sight and PIAA changed the site. 2A and 4A are supposed to be played on Sat and 1A and 3A to be played on Fri, yes you are correct. However not every district is playing in the state playoffs at the same time, some are still in district playoffs. The PIAA only gets involved if their is a dispute plain and simple.

  8. Joe

I don’t know if D12 had an issue or not. The target dates for PIAA games are set so no team gets an advantage, everyone is suppose to play on the same days after their district is done. So no one plays on a short week or has extra time to prepare.

  9. @ Joe
Thank you for the clarity, appreciate that.
If it was good for Coach Gordon, I’m satisfied.

    @Pub
I thank you my good friend, if the situation presents itself again, will heed your advise. It was my fault totally, should have left an hour earlier than I did. Was breaking in a new chauffeur, everything good now!!
Who do you like as Philly Pub AA,AAA,AAAA champion this year? If that’s not your locale, disregard.

  10. So we are all on the same page here. The district rep for the district hosting the game recommends a site, date, and time for the playoff game. The PIAA than takes that recommendation to the away district for their feedback. In most if not all cases the district rep usually speaks to the AD of the school if not the Head Coach. If their was a significant issue raised by the away district rep (which has happened) the PIAA would certainly go back to the home district rep for a change in his recommendation. I don’t have a dog in this fight but I can assure you if playing that date and time was a huge issue to Drew Gordon to where it would impact the game. It would have been changed and more accommodating.

  11. PCL Fan, you are correct!

D12 AAAA has hosted semis at Northeast on Saturdays.

D1 hosted the 2010 semi at PW; LaSalle had nothing to do with that decision.

  12. The Friday game last year for a 4A semi was the first Friday game since 2003. This years game is scheduled for Saturday per the PIAA site as it was last year.

  13. @ Steve

The 2010 State Semi was D1 site selection not D12. 2009 was at Northeast verse Ridley and 2011 was at NE verse North Penn. 2010 was D1’s site and they picked PW.

The 4A semi should be on Saturday per PIAA guidelines. The final is Saturday so should the semis.

  14. Pub School if D12 makes it to the semis this year the game will be at Northeast HS. All their state semi’s are there. The PW game was D1s to host and they picked PW.

  15. @Steve-

I am sure the AAAA semi will be played at PW this year. It’s D12’s turn.. NEHS was not an option last year, live with it. The venue was awesome despite the traffic. you shoulda left earlier to avoid the traffic. just sayin……………..

  16. @steve-

Since D12 has the option of venue this year. I am sure it will be at PW On a SATURDAY!!! Not satire, just a fact. Time will ttell.

  17. @Huck
Ditto to Kmac, your analysis and predictions are lucid and insightful. We enjoy the site very much!!
I’m sure you realize my comments regarding last year’s state semi(time/venue) were satirical in nature. Well, mostly…. 🙂

  18. @Huck

Thank you very much for the D1 power points information. It helps me when I do my own calculations week-to-week for playoffs before the various sites publish them. Enjoy your body of work on Ted Silary’s site; assuming you are the same Huck.

  19. @Steve,
Had to take a little time off and enjoy the summer with the kiddies. Unfortunately son couldn’t enjoy the time with us, damn football! Nice to be back.
    @ Russ,
Agree, Parents cause a boat load of problems too. Look at King (D12) not a powerhouse by a long shot, but they got 3 kids going D1. If you can play, you will get noticed. Might be better off being the big dog on a not so good team, than a medium dog on a really good team. Anybody that is looking at college saying NFL is looking at a pipe dream. Those saying Lehigh/Lafayette and a decent job? You win.

  20. Steve, whatever the reason, when it was D-12’s turn to be host they got to do what they wanted. The same can be said for Coatesville and D-1 last year. It’s not like they never played a game on a Friday night before. I just think that is weak. Not saying ideal for everyone, but weak to bring that up and piss about it.

And I realize that you didn’t bring it up in the first place.

Anyway, it was a great game, in a great venue, with a great atmosphere. I loved every minute of it.

  21. @Jive
you hit the nail on the head.. but a lot of people dont realize is that parents also try to get their kids transferred to another school before football season starts.. whether it be the program they are in now isnt a state contender or the kid isnt getttin “noticed” as much as a parent thinks..

  22. Love the revisionist history by the PCL/LS haters, next I’ll read it was a mercy-rule game with a minute to go!!

Coatesville won the game, that’s it. For those who state the several key players who did not participate is not an excuse, just issuing a factual statement. In the end, Coatesville deserved the victory.

As for time and venue discussion:
Got to tell you, real joy traveling up that forever construction riddled 202 corridor on a Friday night at rush hour during the holiday season. We all got in our Mercedes and limousines and eventually got there! PTL.. We probably did benefit by the decreased traffic brought on by the significant portion of Coatesville supporters who were able to walk to the stadium.
As for the PW venue comment. That game could/should have been played at NEHS as it was Dist. 12’s preference for time/venue(it alternates). Coach Beck agreed to the PW site as it was much closer for his large fan base to attend than NE Phila. The time , Sat. afternoon was out of RESPECT to both schools and their fans…..ditto for Ridley 2 yrs. prior.

P.S. I see my man JiveTurkey is back, missed you brother!!
