A should be Old Forge again but due to lack of competition at that level
AA Been weak for the last couple of years going to be instersting with Dunmore and Riverside moving up.
AAA Abington has a good core coming back Valley View has a ton of kids returning but no coaching North Pocono has a lot of speed coming back
AAAA Del valley should be the team
Never know who going to be sleeper of how kids will develop over the winter
Who’s lookin to be the teams to beat in D2 next year any thoughts?
But we may not want to Ron.
We just might re-hash this season until the beginning of next season.
Only kidding. 🙂
As of this post, we still have the Eagles to follow.
Time to put 2013 football season to bed, and look forward to 2014 season. Congrats to all 2014 PIAA state winners.
Gotta be “The Drive”! I don’t think I have ever seen a drive like that at any level. Pure old school football.
Happy New Year Dave, Jive and all of you..
’13 Memories:
Much to my misery, Prep getting the 5 year LaSalle noose off their neck and going the distance in their 1st State go-round…. flashback memories/visions of ’09.
South Fayette ignoring the press clippings and chatter. Desire, disciplined assignment football erases the horror of the ’10 WC final.
Wood once again proving 3A championships can be won between/off tackle and NO semblance of a passing game.
Actually, some of the most memorable moments was the last games of the year.
Who expected Imhotep to lose, and especially that bad?
Not many people gave Prep much of a chance against PCC, but they won rather handily.
Of course you know I gotta mention NP.
I figured them at 5 and 5 this year and missing the playoffs. They made it all the way to the D1 final. Didn’t think they lose to Neshaminy at all, let alone that bad. But what the hell, they made it there.
Happy New Year everyone!
Good topic Dave! I’m sure you guys expect me to talk about a D12 moment as a lasting memory for the year. Honestly went pretty much as I expected as far as D 12 went. I think I’ll remember North Catholic going for 2, in overtime. I was never a single A follower, and probably still won’t be. However, that was a great football game, with an even greater ending. Gutsy, very gutsy call to go for 2. If it didn’t work I’m sure words other than gutsy would be used, but it did, and it was. Happy New Year!!!!
@David – 2013 Memories
Although I have seen two state champions play in a single year five prior times, this is the first time I ever saw two state champions play each other when I took in St Joes Prep vs Archbishop Wood game at Tennent regular season. I also saw Pennsbury give Neshaminy their only regular-season defeat. And I saw 13 different solid teams with good final records play this season. It was a fine year!
The Drive! An entire quarter, many 3rd down conversions, two of them long. A couple 4th down conversions,9? first downs, and ONE State Title!
What are your top HS Football memories of 2013?
concerning d2follower you are right there was another chop block call in the final, and old forge benefitted from that one also. as far as crying, hear this dunmore, and riverside kicked our butts no excuses. but old forge was gifted this one and also i don’t know how many times i read about how proud old forge was because they kept the score with SC close in 2011. big deal you were in the game.big deal.
What was the score in the single A game?
Is there any truth in the accusation from the SCA fans that Old Forge was just plain lucky?
@jay
You have some mightly rose colored glasses my friend. I watched that game IN person AND on tape…both pass interference calls against OF that setup the SCA TDs were bogus. SCA *also* had what SHOULD have been a fumble whistled dead early. So both teams got a gift on the fumble issue. Was the chop block call big? Yes it was…but that is a rule that the officials had stressed this year. It got called in the state champ game as well. The fact that SCA could not score a point for 3 quarters is the obvious reason they lost.
Also, your angels did not play too clean sir. The cheap shot that put 44 out of the game in the 1st half was clear and the raking of the eyes of 42 to the point that there was blood running down his face was not exactly sportsmanlike….right up to the last play when 4 offered a hand up to your RB and had his hand shoved away. SCA has 6 titles and 13 trips to Hershey…don’t cheapen them with sour grapes crying.
D2 has gotten the better of the matchup 3 of the last 4 years…these things go in cycles. I know that most folks down that way were looking to this year as the one where they would get #7 but you have to live with the fact that Old Forge was better this time around…Buckle it up and go attack AA the way you have A.
I had some time on my hands in the last week, so I spent some time going back over all the posts for 2013 to fulfill my need for nostalgia!
A couple of quick points:
-Great 2013 for Easternpafootball. There were some great post over this last year.
-Amazingly there were some wizards of prognostication to include MYSELF! I told everyone it was going to be a shaky ride but when the time counted the Prep would show up!
-I was going to mention some of the better posters but we all know who they are as well as those who have a clear intent to sling crap!
-A couple of people I have to mention:
DOUGD-He gassed on us in the fourth QTR but his post were riveting! I was pulling for Lakeland and the Lacawana conference just so Doug would keep posting. I could careless about the Lackawana conference but Doug you piqued my interest in AA Lackawana football!
Jive-you absolutely killed me on your High school students use of steroids before English class! I read it a second time and I cracked up! Thanks for that moment!
Ches mont chuck-(AKA Chest Pump Chuck)That Coatesville team must have had so much 4.4 speed it became counter productive! It must have been like hearding cats.
I could go on but I had to mention those three.
As crazy as it seems take some time and go back and read through the posts. I wouldn’t waste much time before July but give it a shot it was entertaining.
In closing 2013 out, I asked the magic 8 ball how things looked for the Prep in 2014 and it keeps returning the same answer, “The outlook is good!”
I like that better then the answers to my 2013 questions:
-Ask again later
-Reply hazy try again
-Cannot predict now
-Better not tell you now!
It wasn’t until December that I got “Without a doubt!”
In all sincerity, finish 2013 safely, make good decisions and see you in 2014!!!!!
@ David Mika
Back atcha David, and a happy, healthy, prosperous New Year as well!
Merry Christmas everyone!
mark, did you watch the tape? pass interference can be argued on almost every play. if you see the fumble with aminute to go in the first half you can’t argue. it is a fumble and there is no other way you canargue it…… it changed the game.
I would like to wish
Jim Norris best of luck
New Head Football Coach at
pittston Area
Though I don’t know anyone from Pittston Area
I’d like to see somebody bring new life into
The Patriots .
And be a power in the Wyoming valley conference
It’s nice to change things up and not seeing the same teams
Rep the valley.
Again best of luck coach Norris
——DO WORK !
@phillyboy
Glad to help. I am D1, Sub One fan because it is where I have almost always lived and the teams I started to follow in 1951 are involved. But I like all HS football, and have no problems with following fine PCL, or D11, or D2, or any other programs either. I love it all!
@jay come on quit crying about a call, the two pass interfernce call that set up Southern two touchdowns had nothing to do with the game?Calls are part of the game i think 0 point for Southern in the last 3 quarters is what decided the game.
@ Kmac
Thanks for your input too. I didn’t know you were a Sub One guy. I thought you were a PCL guy. Looking forward to see some teams emerge as a legitimate state contender. Be fun to see.
