WILKES-BARRE- This just in, “looks like we are still playing football come week fourteen,” to quote the dedicated Berwick football fans whom emptied out of Wilkes-Barre Memorial Stadium following the Dawgs 13-6 victory over prevoius unbeaten Wilson Area, making the trip from the Lehigh Valley.

Berwick came into the game not allowing a single point in their first two playoff games. Wilson came in averaging around 40 points a game. When it was all said and done, Berwick’s defensive shutout was over, but only allowed six points on two field goals.

Jr. FS Mike Dalberto would have two key interceptions, one returned around 80 yards to paydirt giving the Dawgs their second score of the night, which ended up being their final score of the night.

The Dawgs would jump out to the early lead with Jr. QB AJ Mihaly finding Sr. WR Cory Davenport on the 20 yard TD pass in the corner of the gold zone. Sr. K Shane Kitzmiller nailed the point after attempt with the score Dawgs 7 Warriors 0.
Dalberto would then return the interception for the long TD at the 8:49 mark of the second quarter, which would be all the Dawgs needed as the defense showcased their talents.

Berwick would allow just the two field goals from Wilson’s Jr. K Chris Rodriguez a 30 yarder and a 34 yarder and Dalberto would secure his second pick of the night, which salted the win away for the Dawgs.

Berwick’s pass rush was just too much for Wilson Area tonight. One fact to note, Wilson did not face one quad A team this season while Berwick faced three. It was evident that the Warriors were not tested by a strong pass rush and strength of scheduled played a part in that.

Wilkes-Barre Memorial stadium has been called home many times by the Dawgs during their state title runs and this year will be no exception. If the Dawgs keep winning they will not see another stadium until the state title game in Hershey.

All of the PIAA class AAA playoff games are scheduled at district two facilities, if a district two team is still alive in the tournament. Since Berwick defeated Wilson tonight they will now have Selinsgrove at W-B Memorial this coming Friday night.

Selinsgrove defeated Hollidaysburg 35-10 to advance and also own one of those two blemishes on the Dawg’s record, knocking Berwick from the unbeaten ranks in week five with a 28-3 win.

That game may of been the Dawg’s worst effort of the 2008 campaign and it should be a great rematch. The winner will by only one win away from playing for the class AAA state title in chocolatetown.

    Polecat,

I remember I fews years back, I was quoted as saying the football gods sleep a Crispin Field. Well last week it all rushed back at me. It was like OLD TIMES and it brought a slight tear to my eye, to watch Seely and Mihaly coach with their new fearless leader Gary Campbell Jr. This guy has the intensity of a young George Curry and he might be just that.

I would be lying if I was to say I’m not a Dawgs fans the next few weeks. It will be a pleasure to write on the Dawgs the next few weeks and believe me when it all said and over I will be writing a small novel, because I have alot to say on this miracle season that has occured at my old stomping grounds.

Only question I have now. Should I put the jersey on next week??

  10. Johnny Gomes says:

Alright you got me. I said Berwick was going to lose. They proved me wrong. I see them winning the state tittle easily. I’ll put money on Selinsgrove getting shut out this week. Berwick goes on to play Archbishop Wood and they will not be ready for a steller defense that the dawgs have on the field week in and week out.

  11. brad says:
