Wyomissing came oh, so close to upending eventual PIAA champion Lancaster Catholic for the second consecutive season last November, holding a 14-7 halftime lead over the Crusaders and controlling the tempo of the game with its disciplined Wing-T offensive scheme.

Aside from losing career 3,970-yard passer Grayson Helm, the Spartans are rock-solid at seemingly every other position. That, plus the fact that the Spartans are bolstered by the two-way presence of Alex Anzalone, a 900-yard rusher and defensive leader (and Notre Dame recruit), the blue and white are all-the-more dangerous. Other key returners for Wyomissing include Ben Wertz, Brandon Gonzalez, Gerald Burns, Jeriko Reyes, Justin Causa and Joe Cacchione. The Spartans averaged better than 40 points per game and its 490-point output was the second-highest single-season total in school history, trailing only the 2006 PIAA semifinalist team, which scored 515.
