Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Kyle McCord (QB-Jr.) & Marvin Harrison (WR-Jr.)

The Hawks’ dynamic duo put on a show in the first half of their team’s dismantling of long-time rival LaSalle. In the 52-to-7 thrashing, McCord threw for 5 touchdowns and 363 yards in just a half of football. Four of those touchdowns and 222 of the yards were had by Harrison, who amassed the output on six receptions. The scoring connections covered 48, 64, 10, and 81 yards. McCord also tossed a 25-yard TD to Maurice Clark in the first half. Harrison’s 222 yards is now the single-game record for receiving yards by a Hawks’ player. It is also the top mark for receiving yards in a city postseason games. The four touchdowns tied (LaSalle’s Sean Coleman ’12 vs SJ Prep) for a postseason record. McCord’s yardage fell seven yards short of tying a Hawks’s record and 15 yards short of tying the postseason record. The five scoring passes tied the record with three others. In just his 24th career start McCord eclipsed the 5,000-yard barrier and now sits with 5,305 yards in his career.

Defensive Player of the Week

Gaven Pagan-Hunt – Bonner-Prendie – DB – Junior

Archbishop Carroll, the Friars opponent last weekend in the PCL 4A Final, had all kinds of momentum just past the midway point of the third quarter. Once trailing 14-6, the Patriots had scored on their last two possessions to take a 20-to-14 lead. Then, a 28-yard run by the Pats had Carroll in business and looking for a third consecutive score in Bonner’s territory. This is when Pagan-Hunt neatly stepped inside of a quick slant for a huge interception. He returned the ball 56 yards to Carroll’s 7-yard line. On the next play, the Friars tied the game and snatched the momentum in a game that was back and forth throughout. The Friars would go onto secure the win, 35-20, and advance to the D-12 4A final versus Imhotep. Pagan-Hunt’s instinctive and timely play was the most impactful play of the game.

Special Teams Players of the Week

Eric Wilson – Bishop McDevitt – K – Senior

Wilson entered Saturday’s D-11/12 Subregional Final against West Catholic without a field goal all season. With his team trailing, 8-0, midway through the third quarter, the Lancers’ senior booted a 26-yard attempt to get his team on the board. Though, the kick wasn’t a game-winner in a traditional sense, it was a major factor in allowing the Lancers to take the lead after they scored their only touchdown of the game midway through the fourth quarter. Behind Wilson’s timely kick, McDevitt edged the Burrs, 9-to-8, and advanced to next week’s Class 2A 1st Round game versus Dunmore of District-2.
