North Schuylkill gets forfeit win against Freedom Village

Athletic Director Jim Gross received word late Monday afternoon that North Schuylkill’s Week 10 opponent, Freedom Village, was forfeiting the game scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at North Schuylkill after a rash of injuries and plus they have a few players that are “5th year seniors”.  Under PIAA rule any team cannot compete against a school that uses players that turned 19 before July 1st.

Gross was informed that Freedom Village intends to send a letter of forfeiture to the Spartans and District 11 Chairman Jack Wabby, which Wabby must present to a district committee to vote on. If the committee considers Freedom Village’s reasons valid it will award North Schuylkill the appropriate points for a win for purposes of deciding the Class AA playoff seeds.

this may end up helping or hurting the kids, from what ive noticed good teams get hurt with a bye week, while not so great of teams advance from them. will be interesting to see how the Spartans respond to having a week off.
