WESTFIELD – Cowanesque Valley has named James Burns as its new varsity head football coach. Burns replaces former head coach Jeremy Loveland.

“My goal is to increase participation, build knowledge and discipline, and earn respect within the NTL,” said Burns. “I believe our program can be successful, we just need to change the mindset of the players.”

Burns returns to Cowanesque Valley where he coached from 2004 to 2007 as their head coach.

Burns’ previous positions have been at Spring Ball Mansfield University in 2002, Jr. High coach at Cowanesque Valley in 2003, Varsity OL/DL coach at Northeastern York in 2008-2009 and Jr High/Freshman Head coach at Northeastern York from 2010-2011.

Burns played high school ball at Bordentown Regional High School in New Jersey. In college he played at Lackawanna Junior College from 1996-1997 and Mansfield University from 1999-2001.

He played semi-pro football with the Northern Tier Bruins from 2004-2006.

Not only will he be teaching his players on the field, he will be teaching young men and women at Northern Potter School District this year. “My overall coaching philosophy is building men for the future, solid husbands, fathers and citizens.”
