Catasauqua shows no mercy

PEN ARGYL – Ra’Von Burton rushed for 90 yards and scored three times to lead the Rough Riders to a 48-21 win in a marquee Colonial League match-up Saturday afternoon against Pen Argyl (5-2) at Alumni Stadium.

With the win Catasauqua stays on top of the Colonial League with an 7-0 record. Pen Argyl drops to 5-2 in the league.

Pen Argyl jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Jeff Holden recovered a Burton fumble. Mike Racciato capped off the drive, leaping into the end zone for an one-yard score.

The Rough Riders answered the scoring drive, going nine plays on 43-yards. Zack Bradley hit Zach Stopay for a 11-yard strike and Joe Harakal’s kick tied the game up at 7.

The second quarter Catty dominated on both sides of the ball. On defense they forced Pen Argyl to punt the ball three times.

Bradley started the offensive explosion hitting Paryss Marshall for a 18-yard touchdown pass to give the Rough Riders their first lead, 14-7.

They never looked back. Burton scored on two four-yard runs and Catty went into halftime with an 28-7 lead.

Burton was not done in the second half. He scored his third touchdown of the night, going 49 yards for the score.  That drive went four plays for 67 yards.

Eric Matz made it 42-7 on a one-yard touchdown with 8:22 remaining in the third quarter. He added a 54-yard run for another score in the fourth quarter.

The Green Knights’ Nick Oyer scored his first rushing touchdown of the year from five-yards out. Ryan Lobb added a three-yard score late in the fourth quarter.

Note: Pen Argyl will try and rebound next week against Northwestern Lehigh. Catty travels to Palmerton next Friday night.

Catasauqua had 348 total yards. 229 yards rushing and 119 yards passing. Catty has scored 289 points and only has given up 52 total points.
