Q & A with Southern Lehigh head football coach John Toman
We sat down with Toman and talked to him about his team for the 2012 season.
How is your off-season going this summer?
The off-season is going well. We take pride during the off-season in the weight room. We are playing a full scrimmage game down in Florida this year.
Who do you have coming back on offense?
The key kid returning on our line is RT Andrew Terlingo (6-5, 285). Everything on the offensive line is geared around him and RG Daulton Romano (6-3, 265) who is a three-year starter. We moved our starting tight end from last year to center.
We have a battle at the quarterback position between Travis Edmond and Tom Dex. Both of them are competing and getting equal reps.
We have Dylan Schmidt back at running back. He started the first five games until he tore his ACL against Pen Argyl. He is back and healthy. Trent Silfies who got a lot of work last year and Christian Ricci.
We have a couple of fullbacks battling for a spot, Zach Wilson and Tyler Martin.
We have Jake Del Priore back and he is only a junior. We have a transfer from Emmaus, Nick Heiser-Koch. We feel we have two really explosive wide receivers.
Our tight end is Collin Kendrick. He is big and physical.
We are young and athletic.
Who do you have coming back on defense?
We have Andrew Terlngo and Daulton Romano back on the defensive line. We have to find two defensive ends. We feel we are solid in the middle.
Kyle Durics is moving to linebacker this year. Collin Kendrick will be at middle linebacker.
Our whole secondary is back. Trent Silifies started at corner last year and his a lot of speed. Nick Heiser-Koch is the other corner. Christian Ricci is at strong safety.
What about special teams?
Our punter is back from last year. There is a compotation at the kicker spot.
To have a successful season you have to?
Take care of the football. Turnovers lead to losses.
