District 1 Talk Week 12

Quarterback Colin Masterson passing and Ridley’s defense led the way as Ridley shuts out Unionville 37-0 in a District 1 Class 4A game.

Masterson threw for 260 yards and four touchdowns to different players. Norm Dunkin caught a 40-yard pass, Alex Nicolino caught a 22-yard pass, Dion Shaw caught a 14-yard pass and Jalen Randolph caught a 45-yard pass for a score.

Ridley (11-1) plays Downingtown East (10-2)


The Falcons advanced to the District 1 Class 3A finals with a 21-14 win over previously unbeaten Bayard Rustin.

Pottsgrove had 212 yards of total offense. Quaterback Terrell Chestnut completed 6 of 7 passes for 74 yards.

Pottsgrove defense held Rustin to 198 yards, but 107 yards came on two plays.

Pottsgrove (12-0) plays Interboro (12-0)

St. Pius X

St. Pius X defeats Calvary Christian 34-0 to win the PIAA District 1/12 Class A sub-regional championship game at Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School.

Running backs Mike Matthews and Cole Parkinson led the Winged Lions who amassed 421 yards of total offense, all on the ground. St. Pius x ran 46 plays.

Matthews rushed for 22 carries for a career-high 252 yards and two touchdowns, including a 96-yard run.

Parkinson rushed for 115 yards on 14 carries including a 61-yard run.

St. Pius X (8-4) plays Tri-Valley (8-4)

North Penn

Junior running back Craig Needhammer rushed for five touchdowns as the Knights’ crush Neshaminy 35-22 in a quarterfinal District 1 4A playoff game.

Needhammer had touchdown runs of 1, 3, 3, 2 and 9.

Quarterback Todd Smolinsky completed 11 of 13 passes for 120 yards.

North Penn (12-0) vs. Avon Grove (11-1)

Downingtown East

Downingtown East played the lottery Saturday night and won, beating Penncrest in a wild one 49-48 in a District 1 Class 4A quarterfinal game.

Junior quarterback Trey Lauletta hit Tyler Kroft for a 30-yard touchdown pass with no time remaining on the clock.

Instead of kicking the extra point and go into overtime they went for the two-point conversion. Running back Drew Harris went in for the two-point conversion to give his team a memorable win.

Harris rushed for 209 yards on 39 carries and five touchdowns, including the game winning two-point conversion.

Lauletta completed 14 of 21 passes for 248 yards on two touchdowns.
