District 11 Top Returning Players Week 3

DISTRICT 11 NOTES (week 3):  

RUNNINGBACKS: 

Steven Lilly of Palisades rushed for 161 yards and scored 5 td’s in their 47-40 win over Palmerton.  Lilly’s 5 td’s ties the school record held by Trey Gretzinger who scored 5 td’s vs Wilson in 2018.  Danny Darno of Notre Dame rushed for 221 yards and 4 td’s while passing for 143 yards and a td in their win over Tamaqua.  Darno has 350 yards rushing (7 td’s) and 567 yards passing (3 td’s) so far this season.  Luke DeRiggi of PM West rushed for 208 yards and scored 3 td’s in their win over Dieruff.  Clarence Watkins of Allen rushed for 217 yards and 2 td’s in their 22-22 tie game vs PM East.  District leader Alex Achenbach of Williams Valley upped his season totals to 572 yards and 10 td’s.  Aiden Myers of Schuylkill Haven (482 yards) and Cade Sawyer of Southern Lehigh (467 yards) are next in line.  Cade Christopher of Northwestern follows Achenbach’s 10 td’s with 9 td’s scored this season.  Achenbach went over 30 career td’s last week and now has 32 total.  Christopher now has 38 career td’s.

QUARTERBACKS:

Matt Machalik of Palmerton threw for a school record 302 yards and 2 td’s in their loss to Palisades.  Machalik also rushed for 90 yards and 3 td’s.  Garrett Perschy held the old record when he threw for 264 yards vs Bangor in 2016.  Machalik leads the District with his 736 yards and 9 td’s.  With his 3 td’s that he scored last week Machalik joins the “40 td” club and now has 42 career td’s.  Brad Rissmiller of Pen Argyl moves into 2nd place in the District after he threw for 292 yards and 2 td’s vs Northern Lehigh.  Rissmiller has 650 yards passing. Jake Fotta of Emmaus threw for 247 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Whitehall.  In the same game, Whitehal’s Trey Dogmantis threw for 236 yards and 2 td’s.  Isaac Whiteash of Williams Valley threw for 225 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Schuylkill Haven.  Whiteash, who went over 2,000 yards passing in the game (2,022 yards) now has 8 td passes this season.  Brady O’Donnell of Lehighton also went over 2,000 yards passing for his career last week vs Pottsville and now has 2,085 career yards.

RECEIVERS:

Brady Evans of Williams Valley caught 3 passes for 104 yards last week with all 3 catches going for td’s.  Evans now leads all current receivers with 1,389 career yards.   Evans and first year player Conner Dillon of Tamaqua lead the District with 5 td reception. Damian Tyminski of Pen Argyl now holds the school record for most career receptions with 70.  Tim Hahn held the old record when he caught 67 passes from 1987-89.  Tyminski leads the District with 27 catches and is 2nd in yardage (373 yards) behind leader Ian Rarick of Lehighton who has 375 yards.

STAT OF THE WEEK:

With 21 career td receptions Brady Evans of Williams Valley became the 5th Viking to reach 20 career td receptions.  Jesse Engle (2018-20) holds the school record with 34.  Jake Wolfgang (2015-17) had 31, OJ Grow (1987-90) had 29 and Owen Daniel (2010-12) had 26.  Pius X has the most of any District 11 teams with 6.  They are Wade Williams with 28 (2005-07), Nate Stewart with 27 (2012-14), Matt Camilletti with 24 (2008-11), Willie Wallace and Quintin Lopez both had 23 in the 2003-04 seasons and Dubois Ross also had 23 from 2010-11.  Stewart went to Notre Dame for his senior year after Pius closed and caught 6 more for a career total of 33.  And Ross transferred to Liberty for his senior year and caught 1 td for a career total of 24.  Coincidentally there are 19 current District 11 teams that do not have a player with 20 career TD receptions. They are: Ban, BM, Dier, ESN, Em, JT, Mah, Mar, Min, Nat, North, Palm, PA, PME, PMW, Sauc.V, Sc.H, Str, and TV.
