QUARTERBACKS:
Ten quarterbacks went over 200 yards passing in week 7 led by Axel Burkart of Bethlehem Catholic. Burkart threw for 419 yards and 5 td’s in their win over Freedom. The 419 yards are the 2nd highest total for a Golden Hawk. Ryan Roeder holds the school record when he threw for 479 yards vs Central Catholic in 1996. The 5 td passes tie the school record set by Alex Atiyeh in 2004 and in 2005 and tied by Julian Spigner in 2014 vs PM East. Moving down to 3rd highest is Mark Borda who threw for 386 yards vs Glen Mills in 2000. Cooper Madson of Nazareth threw for 306 yards (his 6th 200+ game) and 4 td’s in their win over Liberty. Next was CeeJay Serfass of PM East who threw for 297 yards and 3 td’s in their win over ES South and set the career school records for passing yardage (3,251) and td passes (31). Dylan Rinker held the yardage record when he threw for 3,130 yards from 2017-18, and Evan Fardella held the td pass record when he threw 29 td passes from 2009-12. His 297 yards are the second highest at PME behind the 330 yards Dylan Rinker threw vs Stroudsburg in 2018. The next 3 qb’s had their first career 200-yard games. Zahviay McGurn of Easton threw for 284 yards and 3 td’s in their loss to Northampton and joined the chart (1,145). Alsaiah Gross of Liberty threw for 277 yards vs Nazareth and Curtis Sipler of PM West threw for 251 yards and 3 td’s vs Stroudsburg. Ethan Bench of Shenandoah Valley threw for 245 yards and 3 td’s vs Schuylkill Haven. Tommy Murphy of Notre Dame threw for 236 yards (his 5th 200+ game) and 3 td’s in their win over Palmerton. Colton Sams of Southern Lehigh threw for 233 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Bangor. And lastly Greyson Fuller of ESS South threw for 207 yards vs PM East. With all that said, Murphy has the District lead with 1,741 yards passing and 27 td passes. Burkart is next with his 1,708 yards. Madson (1,695) and Sams (1,646) are right behind. Sams trails Murphy by 3 td’s with 24 td passes. Next are Madson with 22 and Bench with 20 td passes. Sams career passing yardage total of 7,947 yards moves him up 3 spots to 4th place all-time in the District. He moved ahead of DJ Lenehan of Wilson (7,765 from 2003-06), Tre Jordan of Pius X/Notre Dame (7,884 from 2012-15), and Anthony Harris of Nazareth (7,942 from 2016-19). Sams went over 100 career td passes and now has the 2nd highest total in the District with 103. Tanner Dogmantis of Whitehall set the school record for career passing yards with 5,188 yards. He broke his brother Trey’s record of 5,155 yards that he threw from 2021-23. Jackson Mitchell of Stroudsburg broke the career td pass record and joined the “40 td” club in the process. Mitchell’s thrown 42 td passes in his career moving one ahead of Jake Jakobsen, who threw 41 from 2013-15. Junior, Cohen Kirby of Blue Mountain joined the “40 td” club and now holds the school record for td passes with 40, breaking the tie with his dad Keith, who threw 38 td passes from 1997-99. Kirby is a perfect 14 for 14 for 291 yards the last 2 weeks with 5 td passes. We had six other qb’s go over the 1,000 yards mark for the season in week 7. The above-mentioned Gross (1,256), McGurn (1,122), Serfass (1,105), and Fuller (1,045), along with Gregory Tirpak of Marian Catholic (1,097), and Lincoln Rehrig of Bangor (1,002). Sophomore Tommy Welsh of Pottsville threw 4 td passes in their win over Panther Valley. TK Gursky of Palmerton totals from week 6 were adjusted after seeing the film and he’s credited with 6 td passes instead of 5 and 271 passing yards. That ties the school record that Matt Machalik set in 2022 vs Pine Grove.
