District 11 Top Returning Players Week 6

DISTRICT 11 NOTES (week 6):   

RUNNINGBACKS: 

Chase Sukanick of Northwestern rushed for 335 yards and 5 td’s in their win over Jim Thorpe.  His yardage is 2 yards shy of the school record that Eli Zimmerman set when he rushed for 337 yards vs Danville in 2024.  His 5 td’s ties four other Tigers for the school record.  Carson Wentz was the first of the four to score 5 in 1970 vs Pocono Mountain.  Joey House in 1972 vs Palisades, Brett Snyder in 1995 vs Palisades, and Cam Richardson was the last to score 5 td’s in a game vs Salisbury in 2014.  Sukanick has rushed for 901 yards this season and is tied for the District lead with 16 td’s scored.  Colton Reber of Schuylkill Haven is tied with Sukanick with 16 td’s and is now in 8th place all-time in the District by himself with 87 career td’s.  Jeziah Gregory of Whitehall and Joel Nunez of Shenandoah Valley each scored 4 td’s in week 6.  Gregory joins the “40 td” club with his 42.  Logan Troup of Pine Grove leads the District with his 1,256 rushing yards and is followed by Fletcher Thompson of Williams Valley (1,177 yards).  Tyler Price of Marian Catholic went over 1,000 yards rushing in week 6 (1,031) and is 1 td behind Reber and Sukanick with 15 td’s.  Chris Ward of Pleasant Valley went over 2,000 yards rushing for his career in week 6 (2,018) and has scored 28 career td’s which is tied for 4th place all-time at Pleasant Valley.  Michael Mitchell also scored 28 career td’s for the Bears from 2015-16.

QUARTERBACKS:

Colton Sams of Southern Lehigh was 20 for 21 for 253 yards and 6 td’s in their win over Saucon Valley.  The 6 td passes is a new school record.  Logan Edmond threw 5 td’ vs Palisades in 2018.  Sams upped his season totals to 1,413 yards and 20 td passes.  His career passing yardage total of 7,714 yards slots him into 7th place all-time in the District and his 99 career td passes ties him with Cole DeFranco of Notre Dame (2016-18) for 2nd place all-time in the District.  Brendan Nosovitch of Central Catholic holds the record when he threw 106 td passes from 2008-11.  District leader Thomas Murphy of Notre Dame threw for 264 yards and 5 td’s in their win over Palisades.  Murphy has thrown for 1,505 yards and 24 td passes this season.  Cooper Madson of Nazareth threw for 337 yards and 5 td’s in their win over Stroudsburg.  Madson has the 3rd highest passing yardage total (1,389 yards) this season behind Murphy and Sams and is also in 3rd for td passes with 18.  TK Gursky of Palmerton threw for 235 yards, and 5 td’s in their win over Salisbury.  Gursky threw 5 td’s for 2nd time this season and is tied with Madson with 18 td passes.  Tanner Dogmantis of Whitehall went over 1,000 yards passing for the season (1,149) and went over 5,000 yards for his career (5,004 yards).  Dogmantis also joins the “40 td” club with his 41 career td passes.  Jake Lucykanish of Lehighton threw for 254 yards and 5 td’s in their win over Bangor.  The 5 td’s tie the school record held by Brandon Williams (5 vs Panther Valley in 2007), and Rich Fronheiser (5 vs Marian Catholic in 2020).  Ethan Bench of Shenandoah Valley threw for 215 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Minersville and went over 1,000 yards passing for the season (1,205 yards).  Jackson Mitchell of Stroudsburg went over 1,000 yards for the season (1,078 yards) and also joined the “4,000 yard” club with 4,061 career passing yards.  Junior, Cohen Kirby of Blue Mountain went over 3,000 yards passing for his career (3,117) and tied his dads school record for career td passes with his 38.  Keith threw 38 td passes from 1997-99.  The Kirby’s are the only 2 Eagles to throw for more than 3,000 yards in their career.  Keith holds the single season yardage record (1,859 yards) and the career record (3,609 yards).  Sophomore, Trey Snyder of Northwestern (1,095) went over 1,000 yards passing for the season.  Alsaiah Gross of Liberty (1,137 yards) joins the chart via adding his totals from playing at Whitehall as a sophomore.

RECEIVERS:

Otto Young of Southern Lehigh caught 9 passes for 72 yards and 4 td’s vs Saucon Valley.  The 4 td’s tie the school record that Dalton Musselman set in 2018.  Musselman caught 8 passes for 168 and 4 td’s vs Palisades in week 5, then 2 weeks later caught 10 passes for 216 yards and 4 more td’s vs Northwestern.  Young also leads the District with 41 receptions.  Drew Boyd of Notre Dame had his 2nd game catching 3 td passes and leads the District this season with 9.  Teammate Jonathan Striba didn’t score a td in week 6 but actually joined the “40 td” club in week 5.  Striba has 41 career td’s (19 rushing, 20 receiving, 1 punt return, 1 kick-off return).  Shay Strencosky of Pottsville caught 4 passes for 118 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Tamaqua.  Carl Lingham of Lehighton caught 6 passes for 142 yards and 3 td’s vs Bangor.  Luke DePietro of Nazareth caught 5 passes for 211 yards and 2 td’s vs Stroudsburg and joined the “100 catch” club with his 101 career catches.  DePietro also takes over the District lead for reception yardage with his 631 yards.  Henry Shultz of Whitehall is in 2nd place for both receptions (35) and yardage (619) in the District.  Carter Vassa of Bethlehem Catholic is back in action and caught 4 passes for 131 yards and 2 td’s in their win over ES South.  Vassa’s career District rankings have him in 10th place for receptions (163), 5th place in yardage (2,825) and is tied for 8th place for reception td’s (31).  He moved ahead of 5 players in week 6 in career yardage. They are Nate Stefanik of Nazareth (2,738 from 2016-19), OJ Grow of Williams Valley (2,747 from 1987-90), Jahan Dotson of Nazareth (2,755 from 2014-17), Nate Stewart of Pius X/BECA (2,777 from 2012-15), and Noah Dolbin of Nativity (2,790 from 2021-24).  His 31 td catches tie him with Tim Massaquoi of Parkland (1998-00), Jake Wolfgang of Williams Valley (2015-17), and the above-mentioned Stefanik.   Five more players join the chart with their 500 career receiving yards.  They are Bobby Levins of Jim Thorpe (589 yads), Colin Crisswell of Williams Valley (567 yards), Ben Negley of Palmerton (511 yards), Joel Nunez of Shenandoah Valley (506 yards), and Lucas Schwartz of Tri-Valley (500 yards).
