Records fell and big offensive performances piled up across Pennsylvania high school football this week.
Shenandoah Valley quarterback Ethan Bench led the passing performances with 355 yards and six touchdowns, while Williams Valley’s Fletcher Thompson topped the rushing list with 278 yards. Wyomissing Area’s Zander Westwood added a historic performance of his own, rushing for 275 yards — the second-highest single-game total in school history.
There were milestones off the offensive stat sheet as well. Minersville’s Jordan Bowers broke the school’s career field-goal record, while Lebanon’s football program established a new state record with its 57th consecutive loss.
Bowers Sets Minersville Career Field-Goal Record
Minersville’s Jordan Bowers added his name to the school record book by kicking the eighth field goal of his career.
That gave Bowers the new Minersville career record, surpassing the previous mark of six held by Dave Murphy from 1970-72.
Lebanon’s Losing Streak Reaches State-Record 57 Games
Lebanon’s 64-8 loss to Muhlenberg extended the program’s losing streak to 57 consecutive games.
The 57th straight loss established a new state record after Lebanon had matched the previous mark of 56 consecutive losses the week before.
Bench Throws for 355 Yards and Six Touchdowns
Shenandoah Valley’s Ethan Bench produced the week’s top reported passing performance, throwing for 355 yards and six touchdowns.
Chambersburg’s Justin Deneen followed with 295 yards and three touchdowns.
Shikellamy’s Bobby Felmy and Jersey Shore’s Nolen Pauling each threw for 291 yards. Felmy tossed five touchdown passes, while Pauling finished with three.
Dover Area’s Iyon Valenti Jr. passed for 284 yards and five touchdowns. Cardinal O’Hara’s Braylon Harris threw for 273 yards and four scores.
Conestoga Valley’s Camryn Bair finished with 270 yards, while West Chester East’s Logan Cummings and Coatesville’s Mikal Shank each threw for 266.
North Penn’s London Evans passed for 255 yards and three touchdowns. Susquenita’s Kalen Fleisher had 252 yards, Central York’s Jamin Ilgenfritz finished with 251 yards and three touchdowns, and Muhlenberg’s Adriel Baez and Lewisburg’s Xavier Carter each threw for 244 yards.
Troy’s Spencer Martin passed for 241 yards and three touchdowns, while West York’s Jensen Ferber finished with 236 yards.
Felmy and Valenti Throw Five Touchdowns
Behind Bench’s six touchdown passes, Shikellamy’s Felmy and Dover Area’s Valenti each threw five.
Cardinal O’Hara’s Harris and Pittston Area’s Santino Salvo each tossed four touchdown passes.
Schuylkill Valley’s Alex Aletras, Schuylkill Haven’s Bode Hinnershitz, Eastern York’s Brady Cook, Blue Mountain’s Cohen Kirby, Southern Lehigh’s Colton Sams, Wyoming Valley West’s Damian Eastman, Manheim Township’s Dayne Byler, Twin Valley’s Gavan Foster and Central York’s Ilgenfritz were among the quarterbacks throwing three touchdown passes.
Ridley’s Joey Carroll, West Catholic’s Josiah Everett, Chambersburg’s Deneen, Elizabethtown’s Kolton Eckinger, Shamokin’s Logan Steele, North Penn’s Evans, Wyoming Area’s Luke Kopetchny, Bethlehem Freedom’s Michael Stofanak, Marple Newtown’s Nick Link, Jersey Shore’s Pauling, Old Forge’s Parker Harte, Pottsgrove’s Ryan Lucci, Executive Education Academy’s Shawntez Whitsitt, Troy’s Martin and Lewisburg’s Carter also threw three touchdowns.
Thompson Leads Rushers With 278 Yards
Williams Valley’s Fletcher Thompson led the reported rushing performances with 278 yards and four touchdowns.
Pine Grove Area’s Logan Troup rushed for 275 yards and three touchdowns.
Wyomissing Area’s Zander Westwood also rushed for 275 yards, producing the second-highest single-game rushing total in school history. Westwood scored four touchdowns as part of his historic performance.
Annville-Cleona’s Yama Navarro rushed for 263 yards and three scores, while Coatesville’s Andre Watson Jr. piled up 246 yards and four touchdowns.
Schuylkill Haven’s Colton Reber had another big performance with 234 rushing yards, while Great Valley’s Beau Kosmalski rushed for 224 yards.
West Philadelphia’s Jahsir Newsome finished with 223 yards, Mifflinburg’s Landon Moser had 219 and East Stroudsburg South’s Avery Walker and Northwestern Lehigh’s Chase Sukanick each rushed for 212.
Marian Catholic’s Tyler Price finished with 203 yards, The Haverford School’s Mick Slachta had 202 and Interboro’s Momodu Rogers rushed for 201.
Springside Chestnut Hill Academy’s William Howard reached 200 yards.
Kosmalski Scores Five Rushing Touchdowns
Great Valley’s Beau Kosmalski led the reported rushing touchdown totals with five.
Downingtown West’s Amari Cannon, Coatesville’s Watson, Northwestern Lehigh’s Sukanick, Schuylkill Haven’s Reber, Pocono Mountain West’s Christian Stiehler, Honesdale’s Gabe Duda, Williams Valley’s Thompson, Parkland’s Tycen Norman and Wyomissing Area’s Westwood each scored four rushing touchdowns.
Notre Dame-Green Pond’s Aaron Gordon, Jim Thorpe’s Bobby Levins, North Schuylkill’s Brock Holmes, Conestoga Valley’s Bair, Cardinal O’Hara’s Charles Goldsborough, Lower Dauphin’s Connor Kreiser, Hanover Area’s Dewayne Downey, Pocono Mountain East’s Evan Garrett, Northern Lehigh’s Garrett Smoyer and Central Bucks South’s Gavin Graham were among the players scoring three times on the ground.
Penn Manor’s Jalen Dupree, Whitehall’s Jeziah Gregory, Malvern Prep’s Julius Riddick, Mifflinburg’s Moser, Central York’s Legend Johnson, Pine Grove Area’s Troup, Owen J. Roberts’ Mekhi Graham, The Haverford School’s Slachta, Interboro’s Rogers, Cardinal O’Hara’s Morris Donzo, Executive Education Academy’s Whitsitt, Souderton’s Stone McKenna, Dunmore’s Weston Yannone and Annville-Cleona’s Navarro also scored three rushing touchdowns.
Pollock Goes for 225 Yards and Four Touchdowns
Shikellamy’s Thomas Pollock led the reported receiving performances with a huge game.
Pollock caught 12 passes for 225 yards and four touchdowns, putting him atop the receiving yardage and receiving touchdown categories while tying for the week’s lead in receptions.
Troy’s Trey Teribury finished with 185 receiving yards, while Kennett’s Joalex Carbajal caught 11 passes for 183 yards.
Shenandoah Valley’s Todd Seiger recorded 176 receiving yards. Panther Valley’s Chase McArdle had 158, Holy Redeemer’s Josh Grochowski finished with 157 and Jersey Shore’s Connor Winters and Conestoga Valley’s Jayden Conaway each had 153.
West Chester East’s Chase Golden caught 12 passes for 140 yards.
Lewisburg’s Drake Osunde and Dover Area’s Eli Smyser each finished with 134 yards, while Twin Valley’s Brody Majeski had 123.
Cardinal O’Hara’s Zion Goldsborough finished with 122 yards, and Elizabethtown’s Prince Wratto had 120.
Shenandoah Valley Produces Big Passing Numbers
Bench wasn’t the only Shenandoah Valley player to put up big numbers.
Todd Seiger finished with 176 receiving yards, while David Burrous had 113 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions.
Bench’s 355 passing yards and six touchdowns helped make Shenandoah Valley one of the week’s most productive passing attacks.
Wyomissing Tops Team Rushing
Wyomissing Area led the reported team rushing totals with 498 yards.
Westwood accounted for 275 of those yards and scored four touchdowns while recording the second-highest individual rushing total in program history.
Souderton also had a huge night on the ground with 452 rushing yards.
Mount Carmel Area continued its strong ground production with 409 rushing yards.
Bench and Whitsitt Account for Six Touchdowns
Bench’s six passing touchdowns put him atop the total touchdown category alongside Executive Education Academy’s Shawntez Whitsitt, who also accounted for six touchdowns.
Great Valley’s Kosmalski, Shikellamy’s Felmy, Schuylkill Haven’s Reber and Dover Area’s Valenti each accounted for five touchdowns.
Cannon, Watson, Harris, Sukanick, Stiehler, Garnet Valley’s Coltan Tuner, Thompson, Duda, Ilgenfritz, Elizabethtown’s Eckinger, Shamokin’s Steele, Interboro’s Rogers, Palmyra’s Roman Russek, Pottsgrove’s Lucci, Pittston Area’s Salvo, Shikellamy’s Pollock, Parkland’s Norman, Lewisburg’s Carter and Wyomissing Area’s Westwood each accounted for four touchdowns.
North Schuylkill Leads the Way Up Front
North Schuylkill’s Seth Hubler led the reported pancake-block totals with eight.
Solanco’s Tyler Kreider followed with seven pancake blocks.
North Schuylkill teammates Brady Lindenmuth, Mason Simons and Max Kline each recorded five, giving the Spartans four players among the week’s leaders.
East Stroudsburg South’s Chris Lewis, Palmerton Area’s Colson Ruzicka and Wyoming Seminary’s Kevin Oswalt each recorded four pancake blocks.
Interboro’s Bobby Neiss, Shikellamy’s Callan Green and Ricardo Espinal, Palmerton Area’s Mason Konze and Panther Valley’s Spencer Black each finished with three.
