Souderton Reloads for Another District 1 Run 
The Souderton Indians proved in 2025 they could compete with the best teams in District 1 Class 6A.
Head coach Edward Gallagher guided the Indians to a 9-3 record, a first-round District 1 Class 6A playoff victory over Ridley, and a berth in the quarterfinals before falling to eventual power North Penn. Along the way, Souderton recorded impressive wins over Spring-Ford, Central Bucks South, Quakertown, Cheltenham, and Council Rock North, showcasing one of the area’s most balanced teams.
Now, despite graduating several record-setting playmakers, the Indians return an experienced core that should once again contend in the Suburban One League Continental Conference.
Ground Game Takes Center Stage
The biggest offseason change comes on offense.
Graduation claimed quarterback Ben Walsh and standout wide receiver Hunter Smeltz, two players who rewrote Souderton’s passing record book. While the offensive philosophy may evolve, the Indians have the personnel to remain highly productive.
“Our offense will look a little different this season,” Gallagher said. “Graduating a quarterback and receiver that rewrote our passing record books changes things, but Caleb Moyer leads a strong stable of backs who will run behind an experienced offensive line.”
Senior Caleb Moyer headlines the offense after producing more than 500 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns in 2025. At 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, Moyer combines power and athleticism and is expected to shoulder a larger workload this fall.
The offensive line provides an excellent foundation for the running game.
Senior guard Chris Gonce and junior tackle Nick Abraham return to anchor the front, while junior Chase Hart gives Souderton a physical presence at tight end. Hart also emerged as a dependable receiving option last season, catching eight passes for 90 yards and three touchdowns.
Senior Alex Whitcomb returns at wide receiver after making eight receptions for 91 yards and is expected to play a larger role in the passing attack.
Defense Built Around the Front Seven
Souderton’s defense returns plenty of experience where games are often won—in the trenches.
Senior defensive end Djecy Ngoyi is back after recording 43 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He joins his brother, senior defensive tackle Trecy Ngoyi, to give the Indians one of the more experienced defensive lines in District 1.
Behind them, senior linebacker Brett Pollock returns after leading the team with 57 tackles, including four tackles for loss and two sacks.
Junior linebacker Chase Hart also enjoyed an outstanding sophomore season, finishing with 50 tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks and an interception while establishing himself as one of the team’s most versatile players.
While Souderton must replace several standout performers in the secondary, Gallagher believes returning safety Alex Whitcomb provides stability.
“We return several experienced players at defensive line and linebacker. We have to replace several excellent players in our secondary, but returning starter Alex Whitcomb will anchor it from his safety position.”
If the new starters develop quickly in the defensive backfield, the Indians should once again field one of the conference’s top defenses.
Special Teams Remain a Strength
Few teams enter the season with as much experience on special teams as Souderton.
Senior Micah Schirripa and sophomore Charlie Pisoni return after combining to convert 44-of-51 extra points and one field goal while consistently producing kickoffs averaging more than 40 yards.
Junior Chase Hart also returns as the team’s long snapper, providing continuity in the kicking game.
The primary challenge will be replacing the team’s punter and several return specialists, but Gallagher believes the foundation is already in place for another strong season on special teams.

- Brett Pollock, Sr., LB: Defensive leader who recorded 57 tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks.
- Djecy Ngoyi, Sr., DE: Dynamic pass rusher with 43 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.
- Alex Whitcomb, Sr., WR/S: Veteran leader expected to contribute heavily on both offense and defense while also serving as a return specialist.
- Nick Abraham, Jr., T: Key returning lineman who will help anchor an experienced offensive front.
My thoughts on Souderton
Souderton may look different offensively, but the expectations remain the same.
The Indians have a proven running back in Caleb Moyer, an experienced offensive line, a physical front seven on defense, and one of the most reliable special teams units in the Suburban One League. Replacing the production of Ben Walsh, Hunter Smeltz and several standout defensive backs won’t be easy, but Gallagher’s veteran roster provides a strong foundation.
If a new quarterback settles in quickly and the secondary develops around Whitcomb, Souderton has all the ingredients to challenge for another Continental Conference title and make another deep run in the District 1 Class 6A playoffs.
