Central York’s Legend Johnson has taken a major step in his football journey this past weekend, announcing his commitment to Kent State University following an impressive visit to the campus this past weekend.
Johnson, one of the most dynamic athletes in Pennsylvania’s Class of 2027, has become a key playmaker for the Panthers thanks to his versatility, toughness, and ability to make big plays in critical moments.
The 6-foot-1, 197-pound standout has earned attention from college coaches across the region for his production and athleticism on both sides of the football.
“He is a big physical runner with top end speed! He as timed at 4.49 Laser this summer,” said Head Football Coach Gerry Yonchiuk. “He can run through a tackle or utilize his speed and run around defenders. As a Junior he tallied 24 Total Touchdowns.”
In 2025, he rushed for 1,300 yards and 22 touchdowns and caught 12 passes for 113 yards and a score.
“Legend has excellent hands as well and is a weapon catching the football. He averaged 8.2 yards per carry last fall. He has worked extremely hard this off season and has put on ten more pounds,” said Yonchiuk.
The commitment gives Kent State another talented Pennsylvania prospect as the Golden Flashes continue to strengthen their recruiting presence in the Keystone State. The Mid-American Conference program has recently added several Pennsylvania athletes to its recruiting efforts, making Johnson a priority target.
Johnson’s recruitment has steadily grown following a breakout season at Central York. Known for his physical running style, vision, and ability to finish drives, he has been one of the Panthers’ most productive offensive weapons.
With his college decision now made, Johnson’s attention turns back to the upcoming season, where expectations will be high for one of York County’s premier football talents.
