The future of football at Cheltenham School District remains uncertain after district officials announced Tuesday that both varsity and junior varsity football programs at Cheltenham High School will be canceled for the 2026 season in the wake of an ongoing hazing investigation that rocked the program last fall.
According to the Glenside Local, Superintendent Dr. Brian W. Scriven informed families that the difficult decision stems from unresolved internal and external investigations tied to a September 2025 locker room assault involving members of the football team. According to district findings, approximately 19 students witnessed the incident, several participated, and some recorded it, while no one intervened.
The district initially suspended the Panthers’ 2025 football season in October amid allegations of hazing and inappropriate physical conduct.
