CENTER VALLEY – Sean Steckert was coming off a stellar season in 2024. He rushed for over 2,000 yards. On Friday night, he started right where he left off. Stechert rushed for 203 yards and four touchdowns leading his team to a convincing 35-14 win Friday night.
“I think we were sloppy tonight. We had a lot of yards and that’s great, but we left too many points out there,” said Head Coach Phil Sams. “We had too many penalties tonight and we are better than that.”
“We got a lot to work on. But a win is a win.”
After a slow start by the Spartans offense, they started to click. Steckert’s two-yard run and a Vasilis Tantaros extra point made it 7-0 with 2:03 left in the first quarter.
“I mean it’s just a fact that we went in unfazed and we had a plan,” said Steckert. “We had a couple of setbacks, but we stuck to the plan.”
In the second quarter, Steckert got his second touchdown of the night. This time from one yard out. They added another score with 4:16 left in the first half. Colon Sams found Luke Kawczenski in the end zone for the one-yard touchdown pass. It was 21-0 Spartans.
Quakertown got on the scoreboard when Kyler Roesener finished off a drive with a one-yard touchdown run with 1:58 left in the quarter. At halftime is was 21-7 Spartans.
In the second half, Steckert added two more touchdown runs of one and eight yards. In between Spartan touchdowns was a Panther touchdown run by Carter Tucholski for 67 yards.
The Spartans’ offensive line was dominant tonight. As a team, Southern Lehigh had 25 first downs to Quakertown’s six and 474 total yards to 191.
“They are beautiful. When you return four starters from last year’s team from an amazing line, it’s great,” said Steckert. “It’s nice to have that upfront. We got a push every single play.”
Quakertown will look to bounce back in their next game against Pennsbury who lost to Northampton 20-14, while Southern Lehigh aims to continue their momentum against Blue Mountain, who lost to Schuylkill Haven 34-27.
