Quarterbacks – Class of 2012-2013

| Who are some of the top quarterbacks going into the 2012-13 season? Here’s our list of the top five quarterbacks in Eastern PA. The Big School list consists of players from schools within the AAAA and AAA classifications and the Small School list consists of players from schools within the AA and A classifications. Athletes are arranged in alphabetical order by first name.

EPA (Big School)
1) Alec Werner, Bishop McDevitt – 2011 Video Highlights
As a junior, Werner passed for 3,518 yards and 30 touchdowns. He completed 238 of 361 passes.
2) Brandon Lavia, Central Dauphin – 2011 Video Highlights
As a junior, Lavia completed 96 of 171 passes for 1,490 yards and 16 touchdowns. He added 164 yards rushing and four scores. He led his team to a Class 4A state title. His sophomore season he passed for 1,648 yards and 17 touchdowns.
3) Brennan Scott, Manheim Township – 2011 Video Highlights
As a junior, Scott completed 153 of 256 passes for 2,480 yards and 29 touchdowns. He had only four interceptions. His sophomore season he passed for 2,036 yards and 15 touchdowns.
4) Kyle Lauletta, Downingtown East – 2011 Video Highlights
As a junior, Lauletta completed 130 of 210 passes for 1,971 yards and 23 touchdowns. His team finished 9-3.
5) Michael Keir, Roman Catholic – 2011 Video Highlights
As a junior, Keir completed 108 of 198 passes for 1,525 yards and 12 touchdowns. He added 71 yards rushing. His sophomore season he passed for 1,207 yards and 13 touchdowns.
EPA (Small School)
1) AJ Long, Pius X – 2011 Video Highlights
As a Sophomore, Long completed 212 of 315 passes for 3,700 yards and 46 touchdowns. He rushed for 931 yards on 110 carries and 17 touchdowns. His freshman season he passed for 2,852 yards and 28 touchdowns. He rushed for 355 yards on 91 carries and four touchdowns.
2) Brett Smith, Delone Catholic
As a Junior, Smith passed for 1,380 yards and 21 touchdowns. He added 60 yards rushing and three scores. His sophomore year he passed for 525 yards and nine scores.
3) Chris Palubinsky, Shenandoah Valley
As a Junior Palubinsky completed 97 of 192 passes for 1,527 yards and 12 touchdowns. He rushed for 303 yards on 92 carries and 10 touchdowns.
4) Dustin Crouse, Littlestown
As a Junior, Crouse completed 126 of 246 passes for 2,147 yards and 18 touchdowns. He rushed for 131 yards and one score.
5) Nick O’Brien, Wyoming Area
As a Junior, O’Brien completed 48 of 94 passes for 729 yards and nine touchdowns. He rushed for 1,847 yards on 198 carries and 28 touchdowns.

Coach Smith kept his eye on SEPA but Bryan Schor from Delaware Valley in the Northeast stood out at the Elite 11 in New York as the best QB in attendance and commited early to Miami of Ohio. Had he waited he likely would have been offered by a number of larger schools with the season he put together. Talk to anyone in the Lehigh Valley who watched him play against Parkland and Whitehall what they think of Mr. Schor.

Looks like Coach Smith nailed it with his list. Lauretta and Viviano are the only two D1 like he predicted.

@billy splain, andrew ford is in the 2014 class. but he will be a great quarterback, had the luxury of playing him this year, pure leader and ice in his vains. Hes a big strong quarterback thats only getting better

Shane Donnelly from Penncrest is going to put up great numbers. By far one of the biggest and strongest QBs in the State. If the o line improves hel put up great numbers

@Dave Mika- Just a question It says Alec Werner threw for 3,500 as a junior and 3,000 yards as a sophmore. I could be completely wrong, which why I am asking but, wasnt he a sophmore last year? And if he wasnt wouldnt have Matt Johnson been the starter that year?

Tory Hudgins Pottsgrove. QB 6-0 175 lbs. Led the PAC-10 in rushing (211 carries, 1,530 yards) and scoring (27 touchdowns, 164 points). Completed 35 of 60 passes for 655 yards, 10 TD passes and just 1 int for a 201.7 passing rating in helping his team to the District 1-AAA championship.

DiGiorgio’s arm is as strong as any qb mentioned with the best mechanics he is just short on the weight side of it but has been workin out feverishly, Keir and DiGiorgio have elite 11 invites and workout together every sunday , but like you said you can rank any of these kids in any order on the list.

Statistically DiGiorgio is #1 but my list was more of a college prospect list. Lauletta, Viviano and Keir all have the arm strength and size to play at the D1 level. The other boys don’t seem to have that kind of arm strength and size. I think they are all great QB and hope they all play at the next level.

I’ve had a chance to watch all the best qb’s in southeastern PA and would rate them in the following order:
1. Lauletta
2. Viviano
3. Keir
4. DiGiorgio
5. Moriarity

Tim DiGiorgio from Frankford passed for 2357 yds and 30 tds and just recently went to mdhigh rivals 5 star showcase and was rated the #1 QB and is as good as any qb mentioned here

Ryan Zapoticky – Dallas High School. 23 Touchdowns throwing, 7 touchdowns rushing. 1700 yds passing, 500 yds rushing. Completed over 60% of his passes.

Expect Ryan Corkery from Garnet Valley to put up big numbers this coming season. The Harriton QB is also pretty good and could possibly take Harriton to their first playoff appearance in a long time.

@Valley Ball thanks for clearing that up. i had looked at the stats earlier in the day but wasnt 100% sure on it. definately a kid to keep our eyes on though.

Joe Viviano at Conestoga is a 6’5″ 220 monster with a cannon and great feet. He passed for over 2,000 yds. He is the only one I see with a big time arm and body.

Another QB who certainly deserves consideration is Tim DiGigorgio from Frankford High School. This kid can flat out play!

I see Obrien more as a RB/ WR he is a playmaker and a kid you want touching the ball everytime thats why he is at QB. Wyoming Area has done a nice job building their offense around him.

I was typing in Nick’s stats before I read your post. He actually rushed for over 500 yds and had 7 TDs and caught a TD pass as well.

nick shafnisky of whitehall completed 95/175 passes and had 16 tds and only 1 int. rushed for over 300 yards and a handful of scores.
