Q&A With New Western Wayne Head Football Coach Shane Grodack

“We are pleased to announce Shane Grodack as our new Head Football Coach at Western Wayne High School. He has a wealth of knowledge of the sport with over 15 years of coach experience within the program,” said Athletic Director Tyler Jakes. “Shane has a passion for football, the Western Wayne Community, and most importantly, the kids. We are confident that he will continue to grow and develop the program and build off of the success of Coach Wolff.”

On February 1st, Western Wayne announced the hiring of Head Football Coach Shane Grodack. It also happened to be his birthday that day.

“It’s interesting how some things work out that way,” said Grodack. 

Where did you go to school (high school and college)?

1995 Graduate of the Western Wayne High School.        

1999 Graduate of the University of Scranton with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Minor in Political Science.     

2010 Graduate of Saint Joseph’s University with a Master’s of Science in Secondary Social Studies (MSEd)

Did you play football (in high school and college)?

I played Varsity Football at Western Wayne for the 1992, 1993, and 1994 seasons.

I played Semi-Pro Football for the Scranton Eagles during 1996, 1997, and 1998 Seasons as a Defensive Back and on Special Teams.

I played and coached Football in the United States Marine Corps in the 2d Marine Division League from 1999 to 2004.

What is your previous coaching background?

Most Recently I have spent the past 15 years at Western Wayne as a Varsity Assistant Coach having served under Head Coaches Allen “Butch” Keller 2008-2012, Donald McDonough 2013-215, and Randy Wolff 2016-2022.

While at Western Wayne, I have been the Running Backs Coach, Defensive Backs Coach, Line Backer Coach, Defensive Coordinator 2013-2015, Tight Ends Coach, Kicking Coach as well.  I have also spent the past 15 years Coaching the JV Team coordinating both the offense and defense.

In college, I volunteered as a Freshman Football Coach during the 1996 season.

I have also held these positions:  Assistant Track and Field Coach at Western Wayne from 2008-2010,

Assistant Junior High Basketball Coach 2023, and Volunteer Assistant Junior High Baseball Coach 2019

Do you teach and if so, what subject do you teach?

I have been a Social Studies Teacher at Western Wayne from 2008 to the Present.

What is your goal for this team?

My Goal for this team is to continue to be competitive in the league and post-season play.
