RUNNINGBACKS:

Twenty backs have rushed for 1,000 yards or more this season.  Northwestern has 2 players with 1,000 yards with Cade Christopher rushing for 1,423 yards and Dalton Clymer rushing for 1,171 yards.  This is Northwestern’s 2nd season with 2 backs over 1,000 yards.  Head coach Josh Snyder (1,395 yards) and Jon Suter (1,102 yards) accomplished the feat back in 1997.  Dalton is the 2nd Clymer to rush for 1,000 yards in a season as older brother Ben ran for 1,136 yards in 2007.  Michael Pascoe of Panther Valley rushed for 258 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Nativity and in the process broke the single season and career yardage school records.  Trey Tremba of Parkland rushed for 216 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Nazareth pushing his season total to 1,002 yards.  Eric Striba of Bangor ended the season rushing for 1,033 yards and passing for 1,011 yards after throwing for 215 yards in their loss to Central Catholic.  He is the 2nd Slater to rush and pass for 1,000 yards in a season.  Scott LaValva rushed for 1,662 yards and threw for 1,137 in 2008 as a sophomore.  Alex Achenbach of Williams Valley finished the season rushing for 1,744 yards and scoring 27 td’s.  He’ll enter his senior season with 3,961 yards rushing and 49 td’s scored.  Achenbach still leads the District in rushing yardage but is followed by Christopher (1,423) who is still playing.  Pascoe is third (1,351 yards) and Aiden Myers of Schuylkill Haven is fourth (1,346 yards) as both are done for the season.  Achenbach leads the District with his 27 td’s and is followed by Christopher with 25 and Jalen Fletcher of Freedom who has 23 td’s.  Colm McGroaty of Mahanoy Area will enter his senior season with 2,609 rushing yards and 38 td’s.  Teammate Ben Manley finished his career rushing for 2,210 yards and 27 td’s.

QUARTERBACKS:

There are 26 quarterbacks who have thrown for 1,000 yards this season.  Matt Machalik of Palmerton (2,472 yards) has a slim lead over Danny Darno of Notre Dame (2,438 yards) for the District lead.  Darno went over 3,000 yards for his career (3,008).  Both are tied atop the leaderboard for td passes this season as both have thrown 31 so far.    Trevor Minalda of North Schuylkill is third but is 8 td’s behind with 23.  Sonny Sasso of Nazareth who didn’t play last week ends the season throwing for 1,972 yards and 21 td passes.  For his career he threw for 3,849 yards and 36 td’s.  Jake Fotta of Emmaus now owns the school single season passing yardage record.  Fotta has 1,912 yards so far this season breaking the 1,893 yards his teammate Josiah Williams threw for last season.  Isaac Whiteash of Williams Valley ends his career throwing for 2,963 yards and 37 td passes and Brett Balliet of Jim Thorpe ends his career throwing for 2,674 yards and 27 td’s.  Ethan Neidig of Freedom had his first 200-yard game when he threw for 252 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Hazleton.  Brad Rissmiller thew for 292 yards and 2 td’s in their win over Susquehanna to finish the season with a new school record 1,865 yards passing.  Anthony Graziani held the old record when he threw for 1,789 yards in 2000.  Rissmiller will enter his senior season with 2,557 yards passing and 19 td passes.  Brady O’Donnell of Lehighton will enter his senior year with 2,733 yards passing and 19 td passes.  Tamlin Ferguson of Central Catholic threw for 274 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Bangor putting him over 2,000 yards for his career (2,168).  Luke Thomas of Bethlehem Catholic threw for 152 and 4 td’s in their win over Blue Mountain.  Ferguson and Thomas will square off on Saturday.   Besides Striba, Anthony Russo of Northampton (1,072 yards), Tejay Allen of Pottsville (1,026), and Nick Frame of Northern Lehigh (1,012 yards) all went over 1,000 yards passing.

RECEIVERS:

Brady Evans of Williams Valley ends his career catching 93 passes for 2,005 yards and 28 td receptions.  He’s the second Viking to have 2,000 yards receiving in their career.  OJ Grow caught 150 passes for 2,747 yards and 29 td’s from 1987-90.  Evans’ 2,005 yards is the 24th highest total ever in the District.  His 28 td’s has him tied for 15th in the District with Wade Williams of Pius X who caught 28 td passes from 2005-07.  Joey Flail of North Schuylkill has 30 td receptions so far and currently tied with Dan Cason of ES South who caught 30 td passes in the 2008 and 2009 seasons.  Flail is also tied with Kenny Yeboah of Parkland with 119 career receptions.  Yeboah caught 119 passes for 1,932 yards and 27 td’s from 2014-15.  Flail is still playing and is just a junior.  Mason Kuehner of Nazareth finished his junior season catching 62 passes for 976 yards and 8 td’s.  He’ll enter his senior season with 108 receptions for 1,675 yards and 14 td’s.  Teammate senior Nolan Lobb ends his career catching 74 passes for 1,439 yards and 19 td’s.  Lobb has 13 td receptions this year which tied him for 3rd best at Nazareth with Nate Stefanik who had 13 in 2019 after catching 12 in 2018.  The record and the second best are held by Washington Commander rookie Jahan Dotson.  Dotson caught 16 td passes as a sophomore in 2015.  He caught 15 in his senior year after playing at Peddie School in New Jersey as a junior.  The 3 seasons he played at Nazareth he caught at least 60 passes each year and ended his career at Nazareth catching 187 passes for 2,755 yards and 40 td’s.  Damian Tyminski of Pen Argyl caught 6 passes for 131 yards and a td vs Susquehanna to finish the season with school records of 65 catches and 1,032 yards.  He’ll enter his senior season with 3 career school records of 108 catches, 1,812 yards, and 14 td receptions.  Dan Lucykanish of Palmerton tied the school record for td receptions in a season with the 11.  Austin Cseh set the record in 2008 when he caught 44 passes for 837 yards and 11 td’s. Central Catholic sophomore Jareel Calhoun leads the District with 67 receptions.  Calhoun needs 5 more catches to reach 100 for his career.  AJ Lozano of Notre Dame caught 3 td passes in a game for the second time this year and now has 13 on the season which ties him for the District lead with Flail and Lobb.  Ian Rarick of Lehighton ended his career catching 81 passes for 1,107 yards and 10 td’s.  Brock Polinsky of Minersville ends his career catching 80 passes for 1,414 yards and 12 td’s.  Polinsky also had 8 interceptions this season and 17 for his career.  Noah Dolbin of Nativity will enter his junior season with 65 receptions, 1,300 yards and 10 td’s.  Eric Wert of Bethlehem Catholic has 97 career receptions which ties him for the school record.  Tight End Pete Donchez has the record when he caught 97 passes for 1,256 yards and 9 td’s from 2001-03.

STAT OF THE WEEK:

Back to Michael Pascoe of Panther Valley.  Pascoe’s 258 yards in his last game of his career is 10 yards shy of the school record.  Dave Evans rushed for 268 yards and 4 td’s in a 40-6 win over Mahanoy Area in 1974.  John Koehler rushed for 257 yards in 2002 also vs Mahanoy Area.  Pascoe has the single season yardage record with 1,351 yards.  Reviewing the archived stats, Dave Slonaker rushed for 1,242 yards as a senior in 1979, not 1,342.  Slonaker needed 63 yards in his final game vs Blue Mountain to break the record of 1,137 yards that Mike Winsko set in1966.  Winsko scored 20 td’s in 1966 and teammate Bill Maynard rushed for 654 yards and 15 td’s.  Slonaker rushed for 167 yards in the game putting him at 1,242 yards.  I started to look at it when I saw both the Morning Call and Standard Speaker wrote that he went over 1,200 yards in the game.  The Reading Eagle had Slonaker with 1,492 yards of total offense which make sense since he caught 9 passes for 250 yards and 2 scores with one td going for 91 yards.  Slonaker scored 18 td’s as a junior and 16 td’s as a senior.  Cory Sheridan rushed for 1,294 yards and 15 td’s in 1988.  Pascoe also set school records for career rushing attempts (526) and career rushing yardage (2,437).  Roger Gehring toted the ball 509 times from 1993-95 and Justin Malaska held the yardage record with 2,421 yards.  Malaska still holds the career td record with his 41 that he scored from 1990-92.
