DISTRICT 11 NOTES:  2017 leaders are listed at the bottom.

RUNNINGBACKS:  Qb Cory Scherer of Lehighton (8-0) rushed for 309 yards and 4 td’s and teammate TaQuan Chambers rushed for 247 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Pottsville.  Scherer has rushed for 846 yards and 14 td’s so far this year.  For his career, Scherer has 1,561 yards rushing and has scored a total of 27 td’s.  Chambers now has 1,341 yards rushing and has scored 17 total td’s on the season.  Logan Bachman of Central Catholic (5-3) rushed for 31 yards and 2 td’s in the 1st quarter before being injured in their loss to Stroudsburg.  He now has scored 24 td’s this year.  Kobe Brish of Schuylkill Haven (4-4) rushed for 292 yards and 6 td’s in their win over Panther Valley.  Brish now leads the District with 28 td’s and is 2nd in the District with 1,537 yards rushing.  He’s scored 23 td’s in his last 4 games.  Justin St. Hill of Jim Thorpe (8-0) rushed for 114 yards and a td while also catching 3 passes for 106 yards and 2 td’s including the game-winner on the last play of the game in their win over Tamaqua.  Hill went over 1,000 yards rushing on the season and now has 1.052 yards and 21 td’s.  On the all-time list at Jim Thorpe, Hill broke a tie with Rick Kuhn and Phil Redline and also moves ahead of both Gary Storer and Robert Heller and into 2nd place for td’s in a season.  Kuhn had 18 td’s as a senior in 1975 and Redline had 18 as a junior in 2006.  Storer scored 19 td’s in both his junior and senior years  (1993 & 94), and Heller scored 20 td’s as a senior in 2015.  Zach Petiet of Saucon Valley (6-2) rushed for 223 yards and 3 td’s and Alstan Wolfe rushed for 128 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Wilson.  Hill, Petiet and Jared Colletti of Palisades all have 41 career td’s.  The District’s leading rusher Dylan Rabuck of Williams Valley (8-0) rushed for 144 yards on only 5 carries and scored 4 td’s in their win over Millersburg.  Rabuck leads the District with his 1,675 yards rushing and is in 2nd place with his 25 td’s.  He’s 1 td short of his own school record total of 26 that he set last year.  ES South’s 1,000-yard rusher Sean Solomon didn’t play last week so Ryan Clark and Austin Miller were called upon to pick up the slack.  Clark rushed for 265 yards and 5 td’s while Miller rushed for 179 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Allen.  Mike Bisko of Bethlehem Catholic (7-1) rushed for 103 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Whitehall.   Nick Henry of Northwestern became the first freshman Tiger to rush for 100 yards in a game.  He had 100 yards on 20 carries vs Southern Lehigh.

QUARTERBACKS:   Quidanie Vega of Dieruff (2-6) threw for a school-record 359 yards and 6 td’s in their loss to PM West.  Vega broke his own record of 341 yards and threw td passes to 6 different players.  That’s the most ever in District 11 without a player having more than 1 in the game.  Ross Moore, Scott King, and Chris Marks held the old school record with 4 td passes each.  In the same game, PM West’s Dylan Della Valle threw for 281 yards and 4 td’s to push his yearly total over 1,000 yards and now has 1,231 yards.  Frank Rauscher of Central Catholic (5-3) also went over 1,000 yards on the season when he threw for 221 yards vs Stroudsburg.  Rauscher now has 1,043 yards.  Doug Weist of North Schuylkill (6-2) also went over 1,000 yards and has 1 more yard then Rauscher with 1,044 yards.  Cole DeFranco of Notre Dame (6-2) threw for 209 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Catasauqua and leads the DIstrict with 2,282 yards and is in 2nd with his 21 td passes.  Anthony Harris of Nazareth (4-4) leads the District with 23 td passes and is in 2nd place behind DeFranco with 1,939 yards passing.  Junior Logan Edmond of Southern Lehigh (7-1) threw for 222 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Bangor.  Andrew Brett of Catasauqua (2-6) and Javon Clements of Bethlehem Catholic have each thrown for 1,361 yards this year.  Aidan McHugh of Pleasant Valley (2-6) threw for a school-record 354 yards in their win over ES North.  In 3 1/2 games, McHugh has thrown for 1,014 yards and 9 td’s.  Blake Reed of Emmaus (5-3) threw for 197 yards and 3 td’s in their win over Liberty.   Reed now has 1,195 yards and 16 td passes this year.  His 16 td passes ties the school record currently held by Brady Knerr.  Knerr threw 16 td’s in 2009.   Reed has 18 career td passes and is now 2 td passes behind school record holders Andy Shaver (1991-93) and Caleb Fick (2005-06).  Jared Jenkins of Freedom (4-4) threw for 330 yards in their loss to Nazareth and the sophomore now has 1,650 yards on the season.  That moves him into 5th place at Freedom, 89 yards behind Joe Weaver who had 1,739 yards in 2007.  Scott Poulson of Easton (7-1) threw for 222 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Northampton.  Poulson went over 1,000 yards on the season and now has 1,151 yards and 16 td passes.  Nick Rosahac of Jim Thorpe had his 2nd 200-yard game when he threw for 236 yards and 4 td’s in their win over Tamaqua.  Sophomore Deven Bollinger of Northwestern went over 3,000 yards passing for his career and now has 3,028 yards.  Michael Ruisch of Parkland (8-0) had his 4th 200-yard game last week when he threw for 207 yards and 4 td’s in their win over PM East.

RECEIVERS:  Brandon Koch of Schuylkill Haven caught 3 passes vs Panther Valley and all 3 went for td’s.  The td’s netted 131 yards and Koch now has 17 catches for 457 yards and 7 td catches this year.  Khalili Edwards of PM West caught 3 td passes and also had an interception td vs Dieruff.  Edwards tied Jordan Hardy for the single-game school record with his 3 td’s.  Hardy also had 3 td catches in a game against Dieruff in 2012.  They are both tied for the single-season lead with 8 each.  Miguel Hernandez of Catasauqua (2-6) continues to lead District 11 with 54 receptions.  Hernandez now has 148 career receptions for 1,973 yards and 16 td catches.  His career yardage has him sitting just outside the top 20 in the District in 21st.  Zach Bogoly of Wilson currently owns the 20th spot with his 1,985 yards (2009-12).  Hernandez is also one of three active players that are in the District top 10 all-time for career receptions.  He is currently in 7th place.  Jahan Dotson of Nazareth (4-4) is in 3rd place with 168 catches and Dez Boykin of Whitehall is in 4th place with 163 catches.  These 3 players have put up huge numbers as people start to ask if they can reach the number 1 spot.  And then we remember who owns all these records.  That would be Kevin Gulyas of Central Catholic with 247 catches for 4,201 yards and 54 td catches.  You will see those totals on the far right of the chart for the remainder of this season and all of next year as current Viking junior wide receiver Justin Pasquale has reached the minimum requirement of 700 yards receiving and is now on the chart.  Other receivers reaching the minimum last week and are now on the chart are Matt McGrath of Palisades, Jordan Nelson of Palmerton and Greg Bensley of PM West.  Jake Wolfgang of Williams Valley caught 2 passes for 28 yards and a td last week to reach 10 consecutive games with a td catch.  He catches a td pass every 2.31 catches.  Eli Price of Southern Lehigh now has a td catch in 8 straight games.  Mike Brown of Pleasant Valley and Nate Calderone of Blue Mountain both went over 1,000-yards receiving last week.  Brown has 1,012 career yards and Calderone has 1,010 yards.  Brown’s teammate Brent Beck returned to the team after missing half the season with an injury and caught 7 passes for 165 yards and a td.  Ashton Buchanan of Tri-Valley (6-2) caught 2 td passes last week and now holds the school record by himself with 17 for his career.   Victor Alvarado of Dieruff (2-6) continues to lead the EPC North with 38 receptions for 492 yards.  Official stats for ES North’s Naisiah Jacobs in the Easton game are 14 catches for 145 yards.  Both are school records.  Victor Clouse jr held the old reception record when he had 7 catches in a game in 2002.  That total was the lowest school record for any team in District 11.  The old yardage record was held by Abdul Murphy with 135 yards set in 2012.  The 14 catches that Jacobs had is also a District record for the most in a game with only one receiver catching all the passes in the game.  The record for only 2 players catching ever pass in a game is 27.  In 2011, Brendan Nosovitch of Central Catholic completed 27 passes in a loss to Whitehall.  Kevin Gulyas caught 15 of those passes and Jalan Snyder-Scipio caught the other 12 passes.  Alec Huertas of Freedom is now their all-time reception record holder.  Huertas has 95 career receptions breaking the old record of 90 that Matt Kacanda had from 1994-96.

KICKERS:  Hunter Miller of Northwestern kicked a 47-yard field goal last week to set a new school record.   Tom Caamano held the old record when he booted a 43 yarder vs Southern Lehigh in 1996.  That’s the 2nd 47 yarder this year in the Colonial League.  Oliver Stewart also had a 47 yarder vs Notre Dame.

WEEK 8 TRIVIA:   Koby Brish of Schuylkill Haven has scored 39 td’s so far in his freshman and sophomore seasons.  Who is the only District 11 player to score 40 or more td’s before their junior year?

WEEK 7 TRIVIA:  Which District 11 quarterback has thrown the most 300-yard passing games in his career? And how many do you think?  Brendan Nosovitch of Central Catholic had (8) 300-yard games.  AJ Long of Pius X and Dan Harding of Nazareth both had (7) 300-yard games and Tyler Smith of Wilson had (6) 300-yard games.

WEEK 6 TRIVIA:   There are only 2 known active District 11 teams that never had a player score 5 or more touchdowns in a game.  Can you name them?  Surprisingly one of them is Catasauqua.  With names like Gemmel, Rogusky, Gerhard, Linton, Lauer, both Pendry’s, Delgado. Malarchik and Burton I haven’t found a player with 5 in a game.  The other is Palisades. Eight players have scored 4 td’s for the Pirates.  They are: Jim Kacergis, John Buscak, Mike Samsel, Owen Breininger, Bryan Hahn, John Gruver, Chris Gretzinger and Jared Colletti.

WEEK 5 TRIVIA:   Daizhun Rhodes of Bethlehem Catholic had 182 yards receiving last week but it’s not a school record.  Who holds the school record for receiving yards in a game?   Shawn Martell had 221 yards receiving vs Altoona on 6 catches in 2001.  Two of his catches were 74 and 67 yard bombs but ironically neither one went for a td.  His 1 td catch in the game was a 5 yarder.  Mark Scattene also had a 200 plus game when he caught 6 passes for 207 yards and 2 td’s vs Exeter in 2004.

WEEK 4 TRIVIA:  Quadanie Vega of Dieruff broke the school record for passing yards in a game with 341 yards.  Name the 2 brothers that each had over 300 yards passing in a game with one of them holding the old record.   Rich and Joe Ocelus.  Rich threw for 308 yards vs Pottsville in 2002 and Joe threw for 305 yards vs Allen in 2008.   Ironically their game stats were almost identical except for the score.  Rich was 18 for 32 for 308 yards and 2 td’s while Joe was 18 for 28 for 305 yards and 2 td’s.  Rich’s Husky team lost to Pottsville 39-33 while Joe helped defeat Allen 53-0.

WEEK 3 TRIVIA:  Jared Colletti of Palisades now has 2,056 career rushing yards.  Name the 5 other Pirates to have at least 2,000 yards rushing for their careers.  Christian Gretzinger 3,189 (2011-14), Brian Hahn 2,678 (2002-05), James Stanell 2,494 (2006-09), John Gruver 2,284 (2005-08) and Owen Breininger 2,152 (1999-01).

WEEK 2 TRIVIA:  Jakob Herres of Easton has caught 2 td passes in each of the first 2 games.  Who holds the District 11 record with 6 consecutive games with at least 2 td catches?  Dan Cason of East Stroudsburg South had exactly 2 td catches in each of the first 6 games of the 2010 season.  The opponents were Easton, Del Val, Scranton, PM West, Stroudsburg, and Lehighton.  The streak ended against PM East when he caught 3 passes for 63 yards and 0 td’s in a 21-0 win.  Their only loss in the streak was a close game vs Easton 24-22.  Cason would have 2 more games with 2 td’s each to end the year with 8 games with 2 td’s in each game.  He would finish the season catching 57 passes for 1,101 yards with 20 td catches.

WEEK 1 TRIVIA:  A few years back we established that Central Catholic has the most players who scored 40 or more td’s in their careers with 8.  They now have 9 with Darnell Ferrell finishing with 55 td’s last year.  Which team in District 11 is in 2nd place with 7 players?  Parkland has 7: Austin Scott (74), Sean Bleiler (53), Jarel Elder (49), Andre Williams (47), Matt Thomas (45), Rob Dvoracek (40) and Devante Cross (40).

PRESEASON TRIVIA:  Kobe Brish of Schuylkill Haven rushed for 917 yards and scored 12 Td’s last year as a freshman.  Both of those totals are 4th best all-time as a freshman in the District.  The 3 players in front of Kobe in yardage are District record holder Jordan Gray of Nazareth (1,663), Austyn Borre of Pleasant Valley (1,257) and James Mungro of East Stroudsburg South (1,233).  Gray also holds the freshman TD record with 22 total.  Borre and Mungro are tied for 2nd with 17 TD’s each. Which Colonial League former player scored 11 TD’s as a freshman and is in 5th place, 1 behind Brish?  Jonathan Linton (Catasauquqa 1990), Bill Stocker (Wilson 1995) or Cody Remaly (Northern Lehigh 2007).  Cody Remaly is in 5th place with 11 td’s.  Linton scored 7 and Stocker scored 9 td’s.
