Valley West too much for Wyoming Area

Spartans rout Warriors 42-13

WEST PITTSTON- After starting the 2008 campaign with a dismal 1-3 record, victory is the Wyoming Valley West Spartans only alternative to making the quad A subregional tournament.

Since the Spartans 34-7 debacle in front of the home fans in week four, losing has not been and option and winning is beginning to be the norm again. Which has all in Spartan land back in a enthusiastic mood.

After scoring the 42-13 win in West Pittston against Wyoming Area the Spartans are now 6-3 and have set themselves for a “win and your in” game in week ten.

Wilkes-Barre Coughlin will host Valley West this coming Saturday night, in what will be the last regular season game to be played in the Wyoming Valley Conference. The game will be held at W-B Memorial Stadium.

Valley West kept the playoffs in their sites with the win against Wyoming Area scoring the first 35 points sending the game to the mercy rule to start the second half.

Spartan’s Sr. QB Kack Crossin would score two times via the ground adding two more TD’s via the air with receptions from Sr. WR Ali Muhammad. Muhammad would haul in a 42 yarder and 46 yarder from Crossin.

So. RB George Simms also added a first half TD capping a scoring drive with a two yard jaunt to the gold zone.

Wyoming Area would get two second half scores from Fr. RB Matt Kintz.

Kintz scored on a five yard rumble recording their first score after Sr. TE Ryan Carr set the Warriors up deep in Spartan’s territory with a big pass reception from Sr. QB Peter Adonizio.

Kintz second TD came on a 17 yard scamper to paydirt.

Valley West added a second half score when second string QB Jr. Connor Haggerty juanted 24 yards to the gold zone on the bootleg down the far sideline.

The Spartans can now focus on the Coughlin Crusaders and a playoff bid in the 2008 NE Subregional playoffs.

With a win at Wilkes-Barre Memorial against host Coughlin this coming Saturday night the Spartans can all but pack their bags for a trip to the Lehigh Valley for the first round of the playoffs.

W-B Memorial has been kind to Spartan’s Head Coach George Curry over the years. Of course, he wasn’t daunting the maroon and gold colors back then, but during Berwick’s state title run the Dawgs called W-B Memorial HOME during the playoffs and were basically unbeatable there.
