O’Hara Offense turns it up in second half to down Roman 21-14

PHILADELPHIA: For the first twenty four minutes of their Philadelphia Catholic League AAAA division show down with the Cahillites of Roman Catholic it looked like the Lions of Cardinal O’Hara would miss their star running back RB Corey Brown who will be out for about four weeks with an injury but then came the second the half and Lions led by their Seniors Tom Savage, Billy Morgon and Evan Higgins exploaded in the second half for 21 unanswered points to push them to the 21-14 victory.

 

The Cahillites would get on the broad first behind offensive star running back Kassim Everett who let his defense do the scoring this week as he intercepted a Tom Savage pass and returned it ten yards for the score. The extra point by Kyle Haber was good giving the Cahillites the 7-0 lead.

 

From there both defenses step up and shut each other down although the Cahillites had a chance to score again in the first half when Everett busted through the defense and managed to pick up 47 yards before being tripped up by Higgins at the 35 yard line from there the Lions defense which been outstanding all year continue to dominated not allow the Cahillites to score in the first half.

 

The Lions wasted no time getting on the broad in the second half has on the first play from scrimmage Savage hit Morgon on a screen pass, Morgon would do the rest has he raced down the Cahillite sideline for the 71 yard touchdown. Alex Penza would add the extra point tying the game at 7.

 

The next Lion score would break the back of the Cahillites has the Lions marched 68 yards on nine plays before Savage would hit one of his best friends Bob Royal for the 18 yard score. Penza added the extra point giving the Lions the 14-7 lead.

 

O’Hara special teams would then get on the broad as on fumble snap on a punt by Haber that got picked up by Higgins who raced 15 yards for the score. Penza would add the extra point giving the Lions the 21-7 lead. “ That drive pretty much summed up our season, Everyone made plays with Corey being out’’ is how Savage would describe the drive and his team efforts

 

The Cahillites led by Head Coach Joe McCourt and Offensive Coordinator Mike Gallagher would not go down with out a fight as with under two minutes to play Everett would punch it from 2 yards out. Haber would cut the lead to 21-14. The ensuing onsides kicked would be recovered by Dan Curry which preserved the win.

 

After the game Lion head coach called his team “ a great bunch of kids”. Up next for the Lions is the Raiders of Archbishop Ryan Saturday afternoon at George Washington High with kick off schedule for 1 pm. The Cahillites will travel to Lincoln High for a show down with Father Judge Crusaders on Saturday afternoon for 2 p.m. kickoff

   Kasseim Everett Has been playing with a bone bruise since the chestnut hill game. Just to let the viewers know that. He is currently 85-90% from what i hear.

   The only problem I have with refs are when the Game is being clearly called one way to keep a game close as it appeared to be in this game.

   Stop complaining about high school officials.

   I can understand complaints about professional ref’s, but officiating high school games is a thankless job. Are Bo and WDF PIAA certified football officials? I would bet that they aren’t, because if they were, they probably would have been out ref’ing a game Friday night.

   This is one case where I believe that “if you aren’t part of the solution, you are part of the problem” hold true. Virtually every high school ref out there is calling the game to the best of his (or her) ability. Some ref’s are better than others, they all make mistakes.

   Get over it. Stop complaining about a game your team won anyway.

   I agree with Bo about both issues. The officiating was aweful. On one play, that was clearing going to be a touchdown, one of the refs said the pass hit the ground when it certainly did not. The other officals disagreed and called it a cathc. They replayed the down costing O’Hara an additional seven points. This is just one example. With fair officiating this is a 27 – 7 win for O’Hara. These officals clearly favored Roman Catholic, but even they could not prevent O’Hara’s victory.

   The defense again was outstanding. After this game I hope someone will start talking O’Hara as a top team in the Philadelphia area this means you Philadelphia Daily News. After a weak begining of the schedule the Lions made a statement. This game also featured some of the worst refereeing that I have ever seen. At some point it almost seemed that O’Hara was playing Roman Catholic and the zebras.
