This will be the sixth time these two programs have met and Southern Columbia has won the previous five meetings. The last time they met sophomore running back Henry Hynoski rushed for 408 yards in a 76-47 win.
This year’s match up could end up being a basketball score like in 2004.
Pius X is led by sophomore quarterback AJ Long. Long has completed 193 of 279 passes for 3,367 yards and 43 touchdowns. He has rushed for 867 yards on 100 carries and 17 touchdowns. He already has thrown for 6,219 yards in his career. He has multiple targets to throw to. Matt Camilletti has 712 yards, Drake Freeman has 701 yards and Boise Ross has 1,017 yards receiving.
Nick DeRea is the main back for the Royals. DeRea has rushed for 1,021 yards and 10 scores. Petey Hernandez adds some depth at running back. He has rushed for 254 yards and five touchdowns.
Southern Columbia is led by two 1,000 yard runners. Tyler Levan has rushed for 1,554 yards on 175 carries and 24 scores. Matt Moore has rushed for 1,037 yards and 15 touchdowns. Quarterback Brad Fegley directs the offense and has passed for 1,351 yards and 12 scores. He rushed for 210 yards and three scores.
Will Southern Columbia’s secondary be able to stop Pius X’s passing game and will the Tigers depth wear down Pius X? One thing for sure, the road to Hershey must go through Southern Columbia.
