Poteat selects Pitt

Jameel Poteat, a star running back from Bishop McDevitt High School (Harrisburg), verbally committed to Pittsburgh during a press conference Wednesday afternoon.

Poteat selected Pitt over offers from schools like Florida, Notre Dame and USC.  At one time during his recruiting process, Poteat had nearly 50 Division-1 scholarship offers.  Scout.com ranks Poteat as a four-star prospect and the 15th-best running back in the country’s 2011 recruiting class.

In the past 2 seasons, the 5-11, 195 lb. back has rushed for 2,972 yards and 42 touchdowns and has caught 50 passes for 625 yards and 6 touchdowns.  He ran for 1,664 yards and 27 touchdowns in his junior season and has accumulated 3,114 rushing yards for his career.

Poteat is 886 yards shy of becoming the 22nd running back in District 3 history to rush for more than 4,000 career yards.  He’d be the second running back in McDevitt history to accomplish the feat (LeSean McCoy is the other).

Bishop McDevitt is becoming a pipeline for Pitt – current Philadelphia Eagle running back LeSean “Shady” McCoy called Pitt’s backfield his home for a couple of seasons.  The Crusaders’ feature wide receiver the last two seasons, Salath Williams, committed to Pitt as a part of the 2010 recruiting class.

Poteat becomes the fourth Keystone State gridiron star to commit to Pitt this offseason, joining Artie Rowell (OL, Central Dauphin), Ben Kline (LB, Dallastown) and Lafayette Pitts (CB, Woodland Hills).
