Mifflinburg oust Towanda in defensvie thriller.

It was a pink-out in Mifflinburg last Friday night but the players were all feeling black and blue after a brutal hard hitting D4 AA football contest. The Towanda and Mifflinburg teams came to play with Towanda making the crucial mistakes helping Mifflinburg to a huge 14-7 victory in front of a packed house.
Unlike previous weeks in central Pennsylvania, it was a perfect night for football with the field in perfect condition. Both teams’ defenses came out ready to play as both offenses were stopped to three and outs their first two drives respectively. The two squads looked content to play the field position game, but it was Towanda who made the first big mistake. A first quarter TD was run on 4th and goal after a fumbled snap by Towanda giving the Wildcats first and goal from their seven. Three players later Mifflinburg muscled in for the first score. After a series of punts, Towanda would tie the game up late in the 1st half on a 25 yard pass from junior Trey Sites to Zach Ripic making the score 7-7 at the half.
The third and most of the 4th saw much of the same as two pumped up defenses would make stop after stop. Neither team really had a large sustained drive in the contest. Mifflinburg would take advantage of a long punt return to take the ball down to the Towanda 9 midway through the 4th quarter. Mifflinburg broke the tie as Kyle Failor found Bradee Ruhl for a 9-yard hook up for the winning score. Towanda had a chance to tie the game with the two minute drill driving the ball all the way to the Wildcat 25, before a fumbled snap ended all hope for Towanda.
Penalties hurt the Knights as they had 8 for 47 yards while Mifflinburg had three for 25. They also had a hard time running ball with 29 carries for 47 yards.
Sites was 12-for-20 passing for 174 yards with one pick and one touchdown.
Ripic had three catches for 70 yards to go with his score while Casey Huff had four catches for 70 yards as well. Jevin Vanderpool had one catch for 25 yards.
Mason Roof had 11 carries for 35 yards to lead Towanda while Garrett Dinelli had two carries for 25 yards. Huff had two interceptions in the game.
Failor led Mifflinburg with 12 carries for 47 yards while Wiand had 12 carries for 33 yards. Failor was 5-for-14 with a touchdown and two picks in the game.
