St. Joseph’s Prep Head Coach Gil Brooks describes Senior Quarterback Mark Giubilato like this, “Mark is a very fine young man who has worked very hard to make himself a Division One quarterback.” On July 24 that hard work paid off when Giubilato accepted a scholarship to play football for Temple University.

With the addition of Giubilato, the Owls are getting a quarterback who has a very strong arm. This allows him to make all the throws that you look for in quarterback. Giubilato is also a proven leader. One action that shows Giubilato’s leadership came last December when after the story of Kennedy Kenrick senior Shane Giongos and his family went through some trying times. Giubilato along with teammate Mike Yeager led a fund raising effort that raised about $1,900 in cash, checks, and gift cards. “It showed that not only are we a football team but we care about the community ,everyone else even our competitors.” Giubilato’s leadership along with a great effort led to being voted a captain for this upcoming season.

Giubilato will make his first career start on August 29 when his Hawks travel to take on the defending PIAA 4A runner ups in Parkland. When asked about why he chose Temple, Giubilato said a few things contributed to his decison. One of the reasons for Giubilato’s choice was his close relationship with his brother Christian and father Mark Sr who is an assistant coach for the Hawks. “That’s one reason I chose to go to Temple because I want my dad and brother to be able to come to all my home games at least.” Another reason Giubilato picked the Owls was he wants to play at Lincoln Financial Field. Giubilato also went on to say that he really likes what coach Al Golden is doing with the program. Now that his recruiting process is over Giubilato knows that he has to keep up the hard work.
