As a compliment to our great tradition and history of football here in Pennsylvania, it seems only appropriate to start off this week’s column with Congratulations to former LACKAWANNA TRAIL and U of PITTSBURGH standout, YOGI ROTH, who was very visible along the sidelines with the USC coaching staff and players during the ABC Primetime big game between USC and OHIO STATE on Saturday night.  YOGI ROTH has been with the USC Trojan program now for a number of seasons and is well liked by Head Coach Pete Carroll and the other talented staff at USC.  YOGI no doubt brings a wealth of enthusiasm and knowledge to the program and surely enjoyed the Trojan victory on Saturday.  On the other side of the field was former JEANNETTE superstar, TERRELL PRYOR, who saw a great deal of action as the OHIO STATE QB.  TERRELL is surely on his way to enjoying great success with the Buckeyes for many years to come.

In District 2 action this past football weekend No. 3, it was DUNMORE winning the battle of titans against WEST SCRANTON.  The Bucks, a State Runner-up last season, losing to TERRELL PRYOR and the JEANNETTE Jayhawks in the State Final, showed tremendous strength and poise in an impressive 28-7 win over the larger school Invaders.  DUNMORE is certainly a force to be reckoned with in the AA Class.

In other District 2 action, RIVERSIDE remained undefeated with a nice 56-12 win over NORTH POCONO.  ABINGTON HEIGHTS improved to 2-1 with a tight 16-14 win at VALLEY VIEW, who was beaten for the first time.  CARBONDALE surprised LAKELAND with a 28-21 win.  Other winners included MID VALLEY; WYOMING VALLEY WEST; WALLENPAUPACK; HONESDALE; BERWICK and OLD FORGE.

Good Luck to all schools on the upcoming Week No. 4…See You On the Sidelines!!!
