WHITEMARSH: In its glorious tradition rich football history there’s not much Interboro Buccaners Football Program hasn’t accomplished. After Friday the list got even smaller as with their 14-12 victory at Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Colonial Field over the fourth seeded West Chester Henderson Warriors the third seeded Bucs claimed their first District 1 Championship.
A major reason for the Bucs championship was the play of their defense which entering the game allowed 198 points. And on the Warriors first two drives the Bucs defense showed their toughness preventing the Warriors from converting two fourth down conversions. The second of which led to games first score a eight yard touchdown run by Austin Quiah that capped 11 play 67 yard drive.
The Warriors responded on the ensuing drive with a 16 play 71 yard drive that was capped by two yard touchdown run by Chris Mitten who was then flagged for a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. That penalty along with an illegeal procedure forced a 40 point after attempt which fell short giving the Bucs the 7-6 lead.
On the ensuing kickoff Rashdh Fentross set the Bucs up in great field position with an 63 yard return that gave the Bucs the ball at Warriors 36. But two plays later Nick Rentos was intercepted by Tre Green/
On the next position the Bucs extended their lead with a 29 touchdown pass from Rentos to Mark Everton.
From their the Bucs turned the game over to their defense and up untill the fourth quarter they did their job when Mitten again found the endzone this time from an yard out. James Bady pass was incomplete on the two point conversion try.
Mike Christaldi helped seal the victoy with booming punts that kept making the Warriors have a long field to deal with including one that pinned them inside their own 1 yard with 1:33 left. The Warriors drove up to the Bucs 36 before turning the ball over on downs.
The Bucs will make a return trip to Plymouth Whitemarsh Friday Night when they host District 12 and reigning State Champion Archbishop Wood
