carson_long copyLast Saturday afternoon Lawrence Oden took a kickoff and returned it 95-yards for a touchdown against Perkiomen School. He broke Ryan Rogers’ kickoff record of a 90-yard kickoff against Camp Hill in 1998.

He moved here from Nigeria. Carson Long has a second language program also called, ESL. “So we get a lot kids that come in from foreign countries, ” said head football coach Pete Lasavage.

Oden never played American football before this season. “He transferred here last fall and the season was already over. So he ran track last year for us. In the spring he came to me and said he wanted to play football. He played soccer over there.”

What kind of student is he? “He is a very good student and carries an 3.9 grade point average.”

What position does he play? “He plays at receiver where he caught four catches for 90-yards and one score. We didn’t know what he could do. But he is working hard on everything and has done well so far this season for us.”

He leads the team with 270 all-purpose yards.
