Allentown Central Catholic WR Kevin Gulyas receives D-1 attention

The 2010 edition of the Allentown Central Catholic Vikings produced one of the most dynamic and fun-to-watch spread offenses this state has ever seen. While dual-threat quarterback Brendan Nosovitch generates lots of press and lots of ink (and rightfully so), there are several additional components to the ACC arsenal critical to their success.

One of those pieces is wide receiver Kevin Gulyas, who is receiving some Division-1 attention.

Gulyas, a 6’0, 175-pound senior-to-be, has received interest, but no verbal offers, from six Division-1 programs – Cincinnati, Duke, Kentucky, Missouri, Notre Dame and Vanderbilt – according to national recruiting service Scout.com.

Gulyas was the featured target of a lightning-quick and fleet of foot ACC receiving corps that teamed with Nosovitch to average more than 196 yards per game last season. Gulyas hauled in an impressive 78 passes for 1,281 yards and 19 touchdowns, averaging 16.4 yards per reception. He finished six games with at least seven receptions and five games with more than 100 receiving yards. He scored at least two receiving touchdowns in four of ACC’s 16 games. He scored his 20th total touchdown of the season on a kickoff return in the PIAA AAA playoffs against Abington Heights.

As a sophomore, Gulyas posted 837 yards receiving and seven touchdowns as ACC finished 12-2 overall, reaching the PIAA AAA quarterfinals opposite Selinsgrove.

For his career, Gulyas has accounted for 2,118 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns. Barring injury or unforeseen circumstances, the potential is very real for #4 to finish with more than 3,000 career receiving yards.

Allentown Central Catholic finished 16-0 in 2010, winning the program’s ninth District 11 AAA crown and third PIAA AAA championship. The Vikings scored a school and Lehigh Valley record 663 points, good enough for the 12th-best single season scoring output in state history.
