  1. Joe says:

I think this is what should happen in Pennsylvania from now on… The PCL should play amongst each other and whoever comes out is the state champion, period. District 11, 7, 3, and 1 even though your footbal is as good as the PCL stop fielding teams because the PCL invented football and Prep, Lasalle, Wood, and West Catholic could and would beat the Philadelphia Eagles.

  2. John Thompson says:

I agree with Huck. How can you not have Prep in your top 10 rankings. Let’s look at your AAAA rankings. You have Parkland at number 5. They lost to Delaware Valley, who is a HM. I know Parkland is a better teams now, but still they lost.

Josh can you tell me that half of. those teams could beat Prep? Please don’t put them back in after this.

  3. jeff says:

Jimbo, there are many good AAA teams out there. ACC 2 years ago was amazing for example. Don’t get thrown off by the school sizing. It’s a major factor to have more players to choose from, but not always the deciding factor. Look at all the other D11 schools sitting home Friday night. We know they played mostly AAAA teams this year.

  4. jeff says:

D2Fan and Tiffy, Scranton is really good and explosive, but one has to ask, how long before a one receiver and one running back show will hit the wall? It’s the best of the best now. I’d love to see them or DV win the sub regional. Tiffy, really? Can’t believe only one D11 team (Parkland who is a great team) has a shot at beating Scranton or DV?

  5. D2Fan says:

Tiff, DV beat Parkland week one this year and Scranton is for real this season

  6. brian says:

here’s how i think rankings should go once districts/states begin. You lose, you’re done in playoffs so if you lose in districts there are going to be tons of teams still playing. It is possible that your team that lost is better than many of the teams still playing but true rankings should be based on who is still playing. If SCA loses this week in their district final, do i think they are still a top 10 team. yes i do, however there are still more teams playing in the state so they finished lower than 10th. I can understand both arguments and that is why i don’t get bent out of shape over rankings.

  7. Huck says:

Josh, you do a great job and your passion with this stuff is unique to say the least. But there is ZERO chance that SJ Prep isn’t a Top 10 team in this state.

Lasalle/SJP played a game this past weekend that move than likely was worthy of at minimum a Week 15 match-up.

Also, if Bama gets the benefit of the doubt with a single loss in the SEC, then why doesn’t SJP get one here? Is LaSalle a ND schedule level opponent? I think not.

Also, but why do some perennial powers get the benefit of the doubt with 2 or 3 losses (Lancaster Cath.), but not others? In some cases I don’t think the SOS was considered all that much.

As always great job and continue to do what you do.

  8. Tiffy says:

Scranton or DV will be ranked for another week. Parkland will take either of those teams behind the woodshed and beat them by 21 or more. That is just a fair observation.

  9. RidleyGrad says:

    @Szam33
I somewhat agree with you. Great running game, great defense (as always), but passing game is suspect. QB overthrows a lot of targets, but he does have a strong arm. I think they can be a #3 if they don’t get too far behind and have to pass a ton or if they cut down on the penalties and miscues. Penalties were better as of late, but fumbled 4 times (lost 3) against D-West with 2 hurting. You can get away with that in the first round, but I won’t try that going forward that’s for sure. Go green!

  10. mark d says:

    @ Rob
Finally lets hope they can keep it up at least we know one d2 team is going to the 2/4/11 final

  11. rob says:

Never thought I’d see a d2 AAAA team state ranked this far into the season. cool to see

  12. Jimbo says:

@Matt, didn’t DV play mostly AAA teams? Parkland didn’t; enough said.

  13. pclfan says:

Josh to drop the Prep out of the top 10 for a 1 point OT lose to LaSalle is pretty weak. I guess you are really showing what you know about SEPA. Nothing! Stay to picking A and AA out of D7.

  14. Josh Funk says:

    Mike,

Just trying to have a little fun and add some fuel to the debate. I’ve never seen a BCS-esque comment posted on these rankings before. Thought I’d jump in and make a case for the one-loss team. My guys aren’t going to be a factor this year.

  15. Rollie Ciffo says:

Kevin, It’s “They’re” and if Coatesville win another game or 2 they’ll be ranked. Stay calm.

  16. Mike says:

    Josh,

You really think that both Kansas St. and Oregon have tougher schedules than that of Notre Dame?

  17. Szam33 says:

Josh, I am a DIE HARD Ridley fan. I bleed green and white. Ridley is not the 3rd best team in the state. They’re good, but not THAT good. Not yet anyway. But I do appreciate the recognition.

  18. Josh Funk says:

    Matt,

There are no set rules when it comes to rankings. Case in point – I don’t think you’d agree with me if I had any input in the BCS because I’d have ‘Bama No. 3 and Notre Dame No. 4. Count me as one of those types who would put the one-loss SEC team over Notre Dame. ND in the SEC is easily a 2- or 3-loss team, maybe more. It’s not a case of ND being undefeated or having a better record. It’s simple transference. Alabama would roll through the schedule Notre Dame plays and easily go undefeated. Put Notre Dame in the SEC West and I’d be willing to bet they lose 3 games (‘Bama, LSU, & A&M, who already beat Alabama). It has nothing to do with record. However, since ‘Bama plays an unquestionably tougher schedule than ND, their one loss doesn’t hurt them in my eyes. That in turn puts more pressure on KState and Oregon to win out. However, if both KState and Oregon won out, I wouldn’t vote one-loss Alabama over either team into the BCS title game. If one of those two teams slipped up, I’d drop said team to No. 4, move ‘Bama to 2 and ND to 3. Regardless, ND doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt from me.

  19. KEVIN says:

SO… Coatesville has 2 loses by a total of 5 points and there not ranked why?

  20. Matt says:

You have Parkland 5 and Del Val HM, while DV has a better record, and beat them head to head, IMO if they meet again I do like Parkland, but that shouldn’t be the thought process of placing them ahead of DV. I mean, I think Alabama would absolutely destroy Notre Dame and I think others would agree, but you can’t put Bama ahead of ND bc their record is worse. If you’re doing your rankings just based on who you believe would win right now, well then St Joes Prep should be 3rd bc other than Lasalle, nobody probably beats them.Just needs more consistency on what you decide to rank based on.

  21. Rollie Ciffo says:

I would not be surprised to see West Chester Henderson beat Pottsgrove this week.

On the surface, their 3 losses appears to disqualify them from the rankings…except for the fact that their 3 losses are to incredibly powerful District 1 AAAA teams Downingtown East, Downingtown West and Coatesville from the Ches-Mont.

Pottsgrove’s schedule is chock full of AAAA opponents (6 to exact) including powerful Perk Valley and Spring-Ford so its not like they played the sisters of the poor to get to 11-0. I’m not saying I expect it…just that I wouldn’t be surprised. WCH has a heck of a defense.
