Coaches Q&A with Adam Collachi:

Q. What are his strengths at Quarterback?

A. He’s a great athlete first. He’s a student of the game and he really has come a long way in terms of the mental approach with his reads and recognition and all those kinds of things. That’s what we’re really proud of.

He has a rocket for an arm and he has amazing speed. I have never seen him get caught when he breaks free in the open.

He’s the total package. He can make all the throws, he can run and is a great athlete.

When he’s on the run, he can make an accurate throw just like he does in the pocket. If something is not there, he’s not afraid to pull it down and get some yardage. He will put his shoulder down and hit you.

We will have some design running plays for him again this year. He has a knack making big plays.

Q. What are his strengths on defense?

A. He has good instincts and is a great tackler. He always seems to be around the ball making plays.

Q. How’s his leadership?

A. Last year he was named team captain. He’s more of a vocal guy and he holds guys accountable to things in practices and in the game. He competes at everything and he has that competitive instinct.

Q. Final thoughts on Brandon McILwain?

A. He’s so young and just turned 16. He’s very mature for his age. He’s doing all the workouts and 7-on-7s with us this offseason. He has gone to a lot of camps this offseason.

He’s a very grounded kid and very smart young man. He not only excels on the field, but he does it in the classroom too.

Schools of Interest: As of 7/05, he has offers from Auburn, Boston College, California, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Maryland, Miami, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Carolina, Temple, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia
