Starting experience: He has been playing running back since his freshman year and started to play defense his sophomore year.

2013 Stats: He rushed for 1,668 yards on 288 carries and 11 touchdowns. He caught 10 passes for 75 yards. On defense he had three interceptions.

2013 Highlights: In three games he rushed over 200 yards. Against Bonner-Prendie he rushed for 264 yards, Cardinal O’Hara for 251 yards and St. Joseph’s Prep for 240 yards.

Honors: 1^st Team Coaches All-Catholic at RB ; 1^st Team Daily News All-League at RB ; 2^nd Team Daily News All-City at RB

 

Coaches Q&A with Joe McCourt:

Q. What kind of leader is he?

A. He leads by example and he’s the guy that everyone looks to make plays.

 

Q. What are his strengths at running back?

A. He’s physical and relentless. You can put him anywhere, because he can catch the ball. Within 10-yards he is probably the best running back I have ever coached. He never goes down on the first hit and is a physical kid and loves contact. He’s a guy we can give the ball 30 to 35 carries a game.

He’s not a slasher, he’s a kid that is going to break tackles and if you need two-yards to make a first down, he’s going to get them for you no matter what.

When we move him around we can put him anywhere. He can go deep or over the middle. He has soft hands. He’s a ball hawk.

 

Q. What are his strengths on defense?

A. He has the knack of being the center fielder and reads and reacts. He’s good at making plays on defense. He doesn’t over commit and has a good feel back there. He led our team in interceptions last year and versus LaSalle, he had a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown.

He’s a good communicator. We ask him to do a lot on offense, but he’s our quarterback in the secondary on defense.

 

Q. Does he play special teams?

A. Yes, he is our kick returner and has been doing this since his freshman year. He’s good at finding the open hole.

   Kelly was also the PCL, AAAA MVP in 2013
