Kyle Shurmur of LaSalle College High School announced as the winner of the 30th Jim Henry Award

Maxwell Football Club President, Ron Jaworski, announced that Kyle Shurmur a senior quarterback from LaSalle College High School (Wyndmoor, PA), has been selected as the winner of the Club’s 30th Jim Henry Award.

Shurmur has accumulated a long list of honors during his career highlighted by the a 1st Team All-State selection and the Maxwell Football Club’s Pennsylvania Player of the Year in 2014. He was also selected as a 1st Team All-Catholic player in his junior and senior seasons and capped off his high school career by quarterbacking the East team in last month’s Semper Fidelis All American Bowl. Shurmur will attend Vanderbilt University next fall.

“We had some fantastic candidates in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania for this k.shurmuraward” said MFC Executive Director Mark Wolpert. “Both of our finalists Kyle Shurmur and Elijah Robinson (Montclair HS – Boston College), were dynamic players with exceptional academics and well-rounded community service, and I know both of these young men will excel at the next level.”

Off the football field Shurmur is an honor roll student who holds a 4.3 grade point average in honors and advanced placement classes. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is active in Athletes Helping Athletes, Operation Santa Claus, and the peer mentoring program at LaSalle. Shurmur is also a member of the LaSalle swim team where he has gained All-American recognition.

Mark Dianno the winner of the 1st Jim Henry Award and current Maxwell Football Club officer commented, “Being associated with the Maxwell Football Club for the past 30 years, I enjoyed the opportunity to meet Jim Henry and understand the kind of gentleman that he was and why the award is so representative of his many and significant contributions to athletics, scholarship and community service. Over these years, I have also had the good fortune of meeting many exceptional student-athletes. This year’s Jim Henry Award winner, Kyle Shurmur, is an outstanding and deserving recipient of this prestigious award. His on field prowess is rivaled only by his academic accomplishments and the dedication to his community. It is an honor and a privilege to welcome him to the Maxwell Football Club family of Jim Henry Award winners.”

minimaxaward-shurmurShurmur will be honored Friday, March 13, 2015 at the 78th Maxwell Club National Awards Gala which will be held at the Tropicana Casino Resort in Atlantic City, NJ.

Also receiving awards at this event will be; J.J. Watt – Houston Texans (Bert Bell Award), Bruce Arians – Arizona Cardinals (Greasy Neale Award), Marcus Mariota – Oregon (Maxwell Award), Scooby Wright III – Arizona (Chuck Bednarik Award), Dan Mullen – Mississippi State University (The George Munger College Coach of the Year Award), Andy Talley – Villanova (The Philadelphia Insurance Companies Tri-State Coach of the Year Award), Rasheed Bailey- Delaware Valley College (The Brian Westbrook Tri-State Player of the Year Award presented by Philadelphia Insurance Companies) Jim Kelly – Buffalo Bills / NFL HOF (The Thomas Brookshier Spirit Award), Trenton Thompson – Westover High School (MFC National High School Player of the Year) and Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson (MFC Excellence in Broadcasting Award).
