Steelton-Highspire senior running back Jeremiah Young became just the second running back in Pennsylvania history to surpass the 8,000 yard rushing mark Friday night.
According to Pennlive.com, Young ran for 131 yards and two touchdowns in the Rollers’ 53-14 rout of East Pennsboro, which now gives Young 8,021 career rushing yards.
The career rushing record belongs to former East Stroudsburg running back James Mungro, who ran for 8,432 yards. Young is just 411 yards shy of Mungro’s state standard.
Through nine weeks, Young has tallied 1,806 rushing yards, an average of 200.7 rushing yards per game. At his current per-game pace, Young would break the record in either the Rollers’ District 3 “A” quarterfinal Week 11 or the semifinals in Week 12.

Young had all of his carriers in the first quarter. He sprained his ankle, and since they were up by a lot, they held him out as a precaution.
