Hey Flippin’ if N S was as good or better than any of the Berwick teams of the late 80’s and early 90’s they would still be there. I guess you over estimated a little bit. Better luck next year. Maybe next year you should check the Patriot standings since you had a hard time swallowing what Josh had posted.

@ Josh: You’re doing as good as job as anyone else could. It’s all subjective at this point anyway. After his weekend it will be easier, and easier still after next weekend. At this point, it’s all opinion, and you know what they say about them.

I think NL and West Catholic should be higher in AA. I think this potential match up next week if NL takes care of business will represent the East in AA. Northern Lehigh is fast and I think will give West Cath. a game. Ask NS about NL.

A few questions dear good sir.
AA – How is Sharon not in the top 10 or in your top 11? They beat Wilmington (deceiving record) a 2nd time. There’s only 15 teams left in AA – I think they’re better than at least 6 of these schools especially Brockway (no competition), Trinity and GAR Memorial (terrible districts). Throw in Forrest Hills as well. They have two losses – in week 1 to one of the best small school teams in the state and to AAA playoff team where their star QB broke his ankle. They’re not Sharon of the 90’s good, but certainly top 10 worthy this week.
A – I would say your four western schools in this order – Clariton/Rochester/Mercyhurst/Farrell are the four best A schools. Going to be amazing games.
AAA – Why isn’t Central Valley higher than 8th? They handled #1 Thomas Jefferson.
AAAA – State College doesn’t even merit an honorable mention? I know they’re 6-6 but what happens when they beat #10 Perry at the CUP?

Who decides in advance how many teams from a geographic area will be in their final poll? At least you’re open about your bias against the eastern part of the state. Why pay attention to your poll when it’s so obviously biased?

PCL Fan – your points are well-taken. District 1 has been deeper this year than I initially gave it credit for. Just remember, no matter how much “homework” or research I do, I am human, as are the other pollsters who compile state rankings. We’re not always going to get it right 100% of the time.
Jake – Haven’t seen Riverside this year. But I have been following their season via Varsity570.com, and Rossi & Talerico are having very solid and productive seasons. Their matchup with Southern Columbia is pretty even. Should be a good game. The winner of Riverside/SCA will represent the East in Hershey.
Jimbo – I wouldn’t say the AA state title game is being played at Heinz this weekend. But it is the matchup that was expected to happen when the playoffs began out in those parts. If you take a look at where West Catholic stands, there is only 1 eastern AA team ahead of them (Lewisburg) and three western. That doesn’t mean WC is worse than those teams. Hollomon, Mathis and Williams, statistically speaking, are doing well in the ground department,Reid has been throwing the heck out of the ball recently – and Strong-Rankin and Kent may be the best pair of wide receivers in the PCL. Jim Lynch hasn’t had the receiving numbers this year like last, but he’s a solid athlete on both sides of the ball. Defensively, West is solid, too (even if they’ve feasted on consecutive Public League teams – they can’t help but play who they are assigned. They’ve done their job and dominated like they should). Let’s not forget about the Burrs’ offensive line, either, which was the second largest line in AA in terms of pounds per man (I came up with 260 lbs. per man based on the pre-season projections from Huck Palmer), second only to Greensburg Central Catholic’s 278 pounds per man OL in the WPIAL.
Had been hoping for a West Catholic/Lancaster Catholic AA Eastern Final, but obviously that will not be the case after Wyomissing beat the Crusaders. WC should have no trouble whatsoever with the D2/11 AA winner – both teams are run-centric with no passing game to speak of. Potential East Final match-ups are Lewisburg/Danville/Tinity/Wyomissing. Of those four, Danville/Trinity would pose the most trouble to WC, even though I think the Burrs would win a matchup against either team.
In terms of ratings, those will take care of themselves over the next several weeks.

Looks like the real AA state championship game will be played this Saturday at Heinz field – at least according to the Funkster. Should be a great game. What is your take on West Catholic and why don’t you have them rated higher?

There are about 7 guys around the state who do these picks you were the last to “jump” LaSalle to #1. Most had them there weeks ago. LaSalle has been not only winning they have been dominating and doing so through key injuries. PCC has been winning but many close games where there were lucky to come out on top. You should have known that before the rest of the state.
Your changes were not just LaSalle you had North Penn, Neshaminy, CR South to low. Again no respect for District 1. What happened to all those D3 teams you had ranked? They were all better than D1?

I think Lewisburg is ranked too high in AA. Danville will beat them I think. Also, Northern Lehigh and West Catholic should probably be higher.

PCL Fan,
Not sure why you think AAAA is “finally” right, other than LaSalle finally being #1. I have seen LaSalle this year (against St. Joe’s Prep) and I will say that they are a complete team. But I wasn’t going to leapfrog them over Pittsburgh Central Catholic unless the Vikings lost (which they did).

With regards to PCC, NH, & Mt. Lebanon dropping out of the Top 10 – there is a very good chance my final rankings will look much different than they do right now. With the teams that remain while the playoffs are still going on, I am giving them the benefit of the doubt over teams that have been eliminated. Once the season ends, things will change. But it will not solely be the WPIAL making up half of the Top 10. Even though I may be slightly more sympathetic to the WPIAL having predominantly covered the western half of the state the last 5 years….I can’t see my final poll with 5 WPIAL AAAA teams when the season ends. Maybe 4 at the most.

AAAA thoughts…
Dallastown has been overated all year by playing a weak schedule. Wilson also overated by playing in weak league(way better than Boone or Dallastown though). Boone beat a HBG team missing 3 starters including star QB. Boone well coached but now overated(lost to Gov Mifflin 42-0). Red Lion also overrated (mercy ruled by CV 45-6). PCC and North Hills should be in top 10 and maybe even Mt. Lebanon.

Finally got AAAA right. PCC dropped pretty far for losing to your #3 team. But then you got them to high too.
