Penncrest Comes back again downs Ridley 26-19
MEDIA: On a brisk cool evening at Louis W. Scott Field the hosting Penncrest Lions (6-1) found themselves in a familiar situation trailing in the game but has usual the Lions wouldn’t go down without a fight and for the third time this season they found themselves on the victorious side of things coming back to down the defending Central League Champions the Ridley Green Raiders (6-1) by a score of 26-19.
The host Lions would get on the broad first as on the opening drive they would 88 yards on six plays with the big play coming when Matt Atkinson would hit Rick Bailey for a 37 yard gain. On the next play Tyriq Kershaw would power his way in from 9 yards out. The PAT was no good giving the Lions the 6-0 lead.
The Green Raiders would get on the broad when Cody Myers would take a reverse 25 yards to the end zone. Tom Bongiomo would add the PAT giving the Green Raiders the 7-6 lead.
The Green Raiders would be getting started as on the last play of the first half Jr QB Colin Masterson who was filling in for injured Andrew Pidgeon would hit Troy Foster for the 11 yard score. The Pat was no good giving the Green Raiders the 13-6 lead
The Green Raider special teams would get the broad next with a 69 yard punt return by Pat Mills who had some help from blocker Casey Decker. The PAT was no good giving the Green Raiders the 19-6 lead.
From that point on the Lions took over behind their leaders of Atkinson, Bailey and Jerry Boyer. It would be Bailey who would cut the Green Raider lead down to 6 with his powerful 2 yard run. The extra point by Mickey Stevens would be good cutting the lead down to 19-16.
The next Lion touchdown would be set up by an interception by Kershaw. On the ensuing play Atkinson would hit Bailey despite getting a big hit on the play. Bailey would break a few tackles on his way to a 78 yard touchdown. The PAT was good giving the Lions the 20-19 lead. Bailey would finish the game with 4 catches for 153 yards. “We came out we were ready to play, we knew we would come back we came back before against Haverford and Springfield”
Boyer would put the capper on the broad with his 50 yard run. Boyer would finish the night with 82 yards on 17 carries After the game Boyer praised his offensive line saying “I couldn’t have done this without my offensive line.” Atkinson would echo Boyer’s thoughts by saying “they could do just what they wanted to do. Lions head coach Paul Graham said “It came down to them making plays, they do the job “
The Lions victory improve their record to 6-1 and they will look to 7-1 when they travel to Upper Darby next Friday night, while the Green Raiders will look to get back on the winning track when they host the Tigers of Marple Newtown
