District 4 Talk Week 5

Williamsport

Williamsport shut down the Cougars offense, allowed no offensive touchdowns and used an impressive running attack in a 21-7 win over Hazleton Area in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 4A game.

Williamsport’s defense held Hazleton Area to 66 yards. Hazleton Area had only 36 yards rushing on 32 carries.

Jared Buchman had a first quarter 72-yard kickoff return.

Williamsport (4-1) travels to Crestwood.

Loyalsock Township

Loyalsock’s defense allowed only 2.9 yards per play shutting down Bloomsburg high power offense 14-0.

The Lancers defense had five sacks and four interceptions.

Running back Stephen Stopper rushed for 186 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. He had a 68-yard run.

Loyalsock Township (4-1) travels to Mount Carmel Area.

Hughesville

With leading rusher Andy Laychur on the sideline with an injury, Hughesville showed why they aren’t a one-man show.

Cody Butler rushed for 118 yards and DJ Foresman threw three touchdowns in a win over previously unbeaten Shikellamy 35-12.

Hughesville (5-0) hosts Danville.

Selinsgrove

The Seals posted their first test of the season. The Selinsgrove defense held the Dawgs to 73 yards and three first downs. On offense they had 315 yards. The Seals won over Berwick Area 34-6.

Ryan Keiser caught a pair of touchdown passes from Cory Briggs and Cameron Benner ran for two scores. This was the fourth time in five meetings that the Seals have won over the Dawgs.

Selinsgrove (5-0) hosts Shamokin.

Southern Columbia

Jake Morton and Tim Benner both scored two touchdowns and Southern Columbia went on for the blowout win over Warrior Run 42-6.

This wasn’t just a win. It was Jim Roth’s 300 win in 26 seasons! In 26 seasons Roth has compiled 300-51-2 record. He has captured 17 District 4 titles and six PIAA Class A Championships.

Jim Roth becomes the eighth coach to achieve 300 wins and the youngest coach to accomplish it.
